[Maria-discuss] How to manage partitions with InnoDB tables and custom data directories?

Hi all, I'd like to set up partitioning for the "time series" use case as in https://mariadb.com/kb/en/partition-maintenance/. However, I'd also like to control data directories. And I want the "max" or "future" partition as a catch all fallback. So I start with (minimalist example): CREATE TABLE partitioned ( timestamp INT(11) NOT NULL DEFAULT 0, PRIMARY KEY (timestamp) ) ENGINE=InnoDB PARTITION BY RANGE (timestamp) ( PARTITION pstart VALUES LESS THAN (1) DATA DIRECTORY 'G:/MariaDB/partitions/start', PARTITION p1 VALUES LESS THAN (1577833200) DATA DIRECTORY 'G:/MariaDB/partitions/1', PARTITION pmax VALUES LESS THAN MAXVALUE DATA DIRECTORY 'G:/MariaDB/partitions/max' ); Works as expected. Now I want to add a new partition, splitting the "pmax" partition: ALTER TABLE partitioned REORGANIZE PARTITION pmax INTO ( PARTITION p2 VALUES LESS THAN (1609455600) DATA DIRECTORY 'G:/MariaDB/partitions/2', PARTITION pmax VALUES LESS THAN MAXVALUE ); This only kind of succeeds, as the DATA DIRECTORY clause is ignored, with a warning. So the result is useless. The "pmax" partition is now in the default data directory and the "p2" partition is in G:\MariaDB\partitions\max. Specifying both data directories: ALTER TABLE partitioned REORGANIZE PARTITION pmax INTO ( PARTITION p2 VALUES LESS THAN (1609455600) DATA DIRECTORY 'G:/MariaDB/partitions/2', PARTITION pmax VALUES LESS THAN MAXVALUE DATA DIRECTORY 'G:/MariaDB/partitions/max' ); gives two warnings, the "pmax" stays in its place now, but the "p2" partition is still created in that same directory. ADD PARTITION doesn't work either, as it collides with MAXVALUE condition. Any way around this? MariaDB version 10.4.12 Thank you.

[Maria-discuss] How to give user permission to create a trigger?

Hello, we have a MariaDB 10.1 installation used for our shared hosting with a Master/Slave Replication to another MariaDB 10.1. One of our customers has a CMS that needs to create a trigger during installation and errors out about missing permission to create the trigger. I've 'googled' around and found only that granting 'SUPER' privileges does resolve this, but we can't give the customer so far reaching privileges. He is not the only using this server. Tried to do a 'grant trigger ....' for this user, the command returns without error, but the grant trigger does not show up in 'show grants....'. Probably because he as already 'all privileges' granted? Is there a way to resolve this? Kind Regards, Thomas

Hi MariaDB, Thanks for the greate unconference in Shanghai this week, it is a really useful event for MariaDB newbie like me. We have mentioned that we are willing to donate some ARM resource to the fundation for ARM testing and other purpose in the future. And I have done donated one for POC on 20th Nov, and I can now see a new builder(worker) on: https://buildbot.mariadb.org/#/builders named as ``aarch-fedora-30``, and the version is 2019.11.20, so I guess this could be running on server that I've donated? And seems it is successfully running for few rounds. So I have some questions about the Aarch64 CI: 1. So the jobs are running through docker, so jobs for different OS could be run on this host, right? Is it possible to also enable a CentOS7 job now? 2. As I mentioned in the unconference, we will have an OpenSource OS released soon, and we are looking for possiblities to also make it tested in the upstream, If the answer to the first question is True, we will have to prepare a base docker image for our OS, right? 3. It occurs at the initialization and involves with ONLY ONE thread, which is the main thread of the whole process. The related code is two functions, which both checks the connection and read data from MariaDB. The first function works fine, however, the second one's checking connection leads to core dump. Before inserting data into MariaDB without mutex, MySqlWaitConnected() is called. So while multiple threads do the same operation, inserting data is interrupted by mysql_ping() that leads to core dump. Afterwards, I comment MySqlWaitConnected() and add mutex for mysql_real_query() and mysql_commit(). Does anyone meet the same problem before? Any suggestion is appreciated. Thanks in advance. Hi, I am trying to download the Windows C connector 3.1.6 build to test an SSL issue, however the Windows packages are not available from Connector-c-3.1.6 <https://downloads.mariadb.com/Connectors/c/connector-c-3.1.6/>. Hi. I have problems to make query to a table from the db, is delaying so much (too slow), I don't know whats I need to do, I do some test to my code but is not the problem, is the table. When I make a select to the table marked with red, the response delay 6 or 8 seconds, but, if I do a query to another table the response delay 1 second (fast). Only the table marked with red is delaying. System config: OS: Ubuntu 18.04 CPU: 2x Intel Xeon E5-2660 (40 logical cores) RAM: 160GB I built a debug build of MariaDB server 10.5 from the Github source and tried to load and execute the TPC-H benchmarks on it with a database size of 1GB. While loading the data and executing queries, I observed that MariaDB takes an unusually large amount of time (more than 10x compared to other databases like QuickStep or MonetDB) to load the data and execute queries (more than 10 minutes per query, compared to less than a minute for other databases). I'm running the server with following options - ./bin/mysqld --user=nisargs --datadir=/fastdisk/mariadb-server-install-2/data/ --innodb-read-io-threads=40 --innodb-write-io-threads=40 --innodb-buffer-pool-size=16G --innodb-buffer-pool-instances=40 I just wanted to get some eyes on this and check if there is something wrong with the command line options (or whether I can tweak some options to improve performance). I'm just trying to conduct some benchmarking experiments and not very familiar with databases. Thanks Nisarg

[Maria-discuss] Migrating a Galera cluster to new hardware and major Maria version

I've three servers with Debian 9, Maria 10.1 and running a Galera cluster. We're upgrading the hardware by getting three new servers. They will have Debian 10 and Maria 10.3. What are my options for accomplishing this with minimal service downtime? One option I can think of Using a mysqldump snapshot, set up Maria on one of the new servers to replicate as an asyncronous slave from one node of the existing cluster.Set up Maria on the two remaining new servers in a cluster with that async slave.When all looks good, migrate workload to the new cluster. Does that seem reasonable? Tom
