Hi All, Been playing with encryption in 10.1.4 today and there's a few issues... Firstly the manual<https://mariadb.com/kb/en/mariadb/table-encryption/> gives the following example... "Example my.cnf to enable XtraDB encryption: [mysqld] file-key-management file-key-management-filename = /mount/usb1/keys.txt innodb-encrypt-tables innodb-encrypt-logs innodb-encryption-threads=4" But doesn't make mention of the fact you need to add.. plugin-load-add=file_key_management.so for this to work. Secondly... With this config.. "plugin-load-add=file_key_management.so file_key_management file_key_management_filename = /home/rcampbel/key.enc file_key_management_filekey = FILE:/home/rcampbel/keyfile.txt file_key_management_encryption_algorithm = AES_CBC innodb-encrypt-tables innodb-encrypt-logs innodb-encryption-threads = 4" I receive the following error... ERROR Innodb: Tablespace id 0 encrypted but encryption service not available. Can't continue opening tablespace." Then if I comment out inndob-encrypt-tables we get a step further but it complains.. "unknown option -innodb-encrypt-logs" <- documentation for 10.1.4 says different<https://mariadb.com/kb/en/mariadb/table-encryption/> If I change this to... innodb-encrypt-log The server then starts up successfully. Here's a snip of some relevant variables... [cid:image001.png@01D07869.79EBCC60] After this I do seem to be able to dynamically set innodb_encrypt_tables and create an encrypted table... Hi What is the reason for the the new enforce_storage_engine option being session only? Percona's implementation is global, and I realise there was a request to make it less strict, and be overridden by session for users with the super privilege, but surely it would make sense to allow a global default to be set, rather than just session only? The notes say that it was implemented based on default_storage_engine, but that variable is global and session, not just session. ian

Hi, I was wondering if there is a straight forward way to check whether a user has SUPER privileges or not. I came up with doing the following: --check for user’s Super_Priv on the current host SELECT Super_Priv FROM mysql.user WHERE user = 'user1' AND host = 'host1'; --and then also check for user on whatever (%) host: SELECT Super_Priv FROM mysql.user WHERE user = 'user1' AND host = '%' But is there some more convenient way of doing it, maybe using SHOW GRANTS? [Maria-discuss] MySQL for Database Administrators Ed 3.1

Hi I will attend "MySQL for Database Administrators Ed 3.1" from Oracle University. I will take 1Z0-883 "OCP MySQL 5.6 Database Administrator" exam. I choose Oracle University because of their high quality education (did quite a lot of courses at them). On my job I will work mainly with MariaDB and Galera Cluster. Is this exam and Oracle University course helpful for me? I have a background with classic Oracle RDBMs. cheers

Hi all, I’ve noticed that MariaDB 10.0.14 shows an IDENTIFIED BY PASSWORD .. section in SHOW GRANTS, but 10.0.17 doesn’t show the password. I can’t find anything to this effect in the changelog; was this an intended change, or is it a bug? The MariaDB docs show SHOW GRANTS behaving without the password dump. Thank you! -FG

Please answer it at http://mariadb.com/kb/en/determining-size-of-a-row-in-bytes/ as the person asking the question may not be subscribed to the mailing list. -------------------------------- I have a small but essential requirement that is making me seriously consider a shift away from MySQL and I am wondering if MariaDB is a viable alternative. I need to measure the size of a row in bytes (easily). Specifically, a table consists of rows belonging to several users. I need to know how much disk space is consumed by each of those users. The only solution I can find in MySQL documentation/forums are inefficient and inaccurate approximations. Does MariaDB provide some way of doing this easily? I have to do it on multiple tables which will probably change, so I don't want to build maintenance overheads in. This change coincides with the default value change for innodb_file_format, which is set to Barracuda by default in MySQL 5.7.7. Together, these default value changes allow larger column prefix indexes to be created when using ROW_FORMAT=DYNAMIC or ROW_FORMAT=COMPRESSED. if somebody has day for day the ame table damaged just go to the datadir and delete the leave .TMM file and after that it should not happen again for at least some time cms1_user_online.TMM
