Hello, We have a MySQL Version 5.0.95 setup that consists of 1 master server and 3 replication slave servers. Now we want to upgrade these servers to MySQL 5.5 via intermediate step MySQL 5.1. Can we upgrade one MySQL server at a time or do we have to take all servers down and upgrade all at once? In other words, is the binlog replication protocol compatible between all MySQL 5.0.95, 5.1 ja 5.5? Many thanks for the information. My second node, however, when trying to run wsrep_sst_xtrabackup gets the error "Can't find innobackupex in the path". As soon as I start the mysql service on the second node, I briefly see it as an incoming address on the first node, but then it goes away. Hi, I am trying to use the "Connect" engine to read data from Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 from a linux based MariaDB instance. I am getting the following error. create table tablea ( -> id bigint(20) NOT NULL, ) -> engine=connect table_type=ODBC -> block_size=10 -> tabname='tablea' -> Connection='DSN=MSSQLTestServer' ERROR 1105 (HY000): Unsupported table type ODBC I have the underlying linux box talking fine to the "MSSQLTestServer" via odbc through the iSQL command. You can see here where i connect via isql from the command line with no issue isql -v MSSQLTestServer sa $sanitized +---------------------------------------+ | Connected! | | | | sql-statement | | help [tablename] | | quit | | | +---------------------------------------+ So odbc is installed and working properly on the linux box. To anyone who knows how the MyISAM engine works (or maybe this is independent of the DB engine), here’s my scenario: * I have a table with 180,000 rows * I delete 170,000 rows with a DELETE and subsequent COMMIT statement * The MYI table file is still the same size it was before the 170k rows were deleted I saw there’s an administrative PURGE command, but it looks like that is just for purging data from binary logs, if you’ve even turned on the option for keeping binary logs. In MariaDB 5.5.30 or later, how do I run a purge operation to compress the deleted rows of data out of my physical table files and cause the reindexing to happen for the data that is still in my tables? When we started replication, maria was a day behind its master. its working fine but we noticed this phenomenon: when we execute 'show all slaves status' consecutively the 'seconds_behind_master' flips from 0 to XXX and XXX to 0. XXX keeps decreasing though, which is good as its getting closer to the state of its master. But wanted to know why the 'seconds_behind_master' comes down to 0 then again sets to a positive number. Note: XXX is some positive number. Hi Folks, I'm seeing a difference in a query result between MariaDB 5.5.32 and MySQL 5.1.69. I've distilled things down as far as I can get them, while still being able to reproduce the issue. Anything else I do to get the sample to make it smaller or more focused seems to make the issue disappear. Hello, A new question has been asked in "Upgrading MariaDB" by flumpydog: -------------------------------- One of our internal development db servers is currently running MySQL 5.1.31-community on CentOS 5.9 as it suits are needs internally for testing only purposes of our sites. I would like to use this box to install and test MariaDB 5.5 on. What would be the best method to make this transition as smooth as possible? The MySQL rpm's are not the ones supplied by CentOS, but are from the MySQL site. Should I do a dump of all the databases on MySQL, remove all the MySQL rpm packages, install MariaDB 5.5 via yum and then do an import of the databases? Or will I have to install a prior release of MariaDB and upgrade from there? Also, all the tables are currently using the MyISAM storage engine. Just so I will have the best experience here and while I am experimenting, what storage engine would you recommend we try, Ari or? Some of these tables contain in excess of a million rows. Is there anything I should be aware of before converting tables? [Maria-discuss] The MariaDB Foundation and MariaDB trademark?

While poking around on the various sites (discussed at length in previous threads) I was left wondering about the MariaDB trademark. I was under the impression this was going to be owned by and managed by the MariaDB Foundation. It seems like it was registered by Monty Program Ab though, and never transferred to or owned by MariaDB Foundation. So, after the acquisition it is now owned by SkySQL. The SkySQL site's "Trademarks" page<http://www.skysql.com/about/legal/trademarks>definitively confirms this with the text «The "MariaDB" trademark is wholly owned by SkySQL Corporation Ab and is a registered trademark in ...». So, I am left wondering what happened? Was my original understanding incorrect, or was this never properly followed through? While I would hope SkySQL is a good community member and would not do anything bad with the trademark, this does defeat a lot of the original idea with the foundation, by my understanding, and leaves a single commercial entity in more or less full control of MariaDB's future. Hello, A new question has been asked in "MariaDB community" by flumpydog: -------------------------------- I am attempting to install MariaDB on a x86_64 server running CentOS 5.9. I followed the instructions for "Installing MariaDB with yum", created the MariaDB.repo file, however when I run yum, it wants to install i386 rpm files and not x86_64. I even attempted to modify the MariaDB.repo file and use baseurl = http://yum.mariadb.org/5.5/centos5-amd64 , however this did not work. What can I do to correct this as I would like to do this all with yum. (this thread was originaly from maria-developpers) The mariadb.com/.org distinction is not really clear as both have a similar layout, designs and duplicate contents, plus distincting both sites from the sole TLD is not the most visible one ; i must admit that the first time i ended up on mariadb.com i thought at first that it was just the mariadb.org website that had a design update. I think the 'mysql' client with MariaDB has a similar problem as it has with MySQL - refer? http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=70443 MariaDB installer installs my.ini to /datadir - what with MariaDB is a subfolder to /basedir. The server will look for it correctly as the registry key defining the service has a --default-file specification. But the command line clients don't read the registry key. @Wlad? -- Peter -- Webyog

Hi guys, New problems to solve here =) if anyone could help should be nice :) I have an old system that use only one server with aria/myisam tables (some temporary tables and some views too) I want to implement a multi master replication (near to a cluster...), but i should take care about replication conflicts.... There's some good pratices or books about implementing multi master without replication conflicts? Should I change it to galera cluster? Well maybe.. I don't know what to do with aria storage, galera works with innodb/xtradb/myisam, what about aria? i didn't tested yet I don't know what to do about commit phase with myisam too, since galera do the certificate at commits phase before commit, and myisam problably do a autocommit at each insert/update/delete, this will be a problem, or not? The idea is not use innodb or I should implement some tables or views to have a faster COUNT/MIN/MAX functions (myisam is optimized for it), and i should rewrite some codes to use BEGIN, COMMIT, and cancel if connection is lost Well physical problems... Servers will not be online all time, the network link isn't good, servers are ~50km far via a wifi link with some tree and birds and others problems (that's why i think async replication is ok, instead of galera 'sync' cluster) Any idea is well come, but should be nice something that myisam/aria could be used I asked some days ago about replication and galera and xtradb cluster, but i'm not sure what to do yet tks guys! ideas are wellcome -- Roberto Spadim

Manually-specified variables were not used by the project: HAVE_POOL_OF_THREADS cd /home/builduser/rpmbuild/BUILD/mariadb-5.5.33a/sql && /usr/bin/c++ -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -DHAVE_EVENT_SCHEDULER -DHAVE_OPENSSL -DHAVE_POOL_OF_THREADS -DMYSQL_SERVER ___________________________ IMHO that is a nice idea but in tests with typical PHP allications it slows things down, in case of applications like "dbmail" which have their own sql-connection-pooling it doe snot have benefits yes, you need to enable it in the my.cnf, but i am a fan of disable things at compile-time which are not used inside a known infrastructure and keep binaries as small as possible

Hi guys, there's one easy way to implement a multi-master cluster using myisam/aria ? i know that galera cluster use innodb as backend, there's anything similar to aria/myisam? scaledb? ndb? others? the main problem switching from aria/myisam to innodb is the MIN/MAX/COUNT(*) optimization and the rows sizes/index considerations ( https://mariadb.com/kb/en/converting-tables-from-myisam-to-innodb/) and since it's myisam/aria many apps don't use begin transaction / commit (maybe this is a problem for cluster/multi master?) thanks guys :) -- Roberto Spadim

Hello, A new question has been asked in "General FAQ" by vivek_kubaji: -------------------------------- We in the process of migrating from MySql to MariaDB due to licensing/commercial usage reasons. We have successfully replaced the MySql connector jar with MariaDB client jar (first change) and are now trying to replace MySql server with MariaDB server without changing the data files. I initially suspected of idle connections but we are using Hibernate configurations like 'testOnBorrow' so it shouldn't be the case. Can anyone help us to find out the cause for this and help us fix the problem? Is there any specific configuration in MariaDB that I should be doing? I've even run our applications by increasing the value of the param 'interactive_timeout' in the MariaDB server but it did not help. Btw, we are using Spring-Hibernate and pooling our connections using Commons-pool jar. Any kind of help will be deeply appreciated. I can't use yum since it's gong to be an offline install so there's no live access to the repository. The only MySQL package installed is mysql-libs as various other packages depend on it. [Maria-discuss] New Question: Replication stops after one hour or so

Hello, A new question has been asked in "Replication" by Martin22: -------------------------------- Hi there, we operate a big MariaDB-server (24 CPUs, 48 GB RAM, Version 5.5.32 with Percona XTRADB). Because it is mission-critical it is replicated to another server of similar size (row based replication). We get the ball rolling with "innobackupex" (GREAT tool to clone a life server). After setting the slave to its coordinates it starts up, catches up to the master (times behind = 0) and all is well. For an hour. Or four. Or two days. Then the slave suddenly stops executing the masters binlog. There are no errors logged. I checked the binlog and relaylog on master and slave around the last log entry processed and can't find anything strange. I'm at a total loss. I can't say that I'm an MySQL or MariaDB specialist, so I'd like to reach out to this community in order to get some idea what's happening. Anybody got an idea? Thanks in advance! Many people have expressed to me and others working on MariaDB that it would make the most sense for the KB to be located under a MariaDB domain, so I'm happy to report that the KB is now at https://mariadb.com/kb If you've used the KB in the last couple of days, you've probably already noticed this as the change went live over the weekend. We've also updated the colors to match the new look of mariadb.com. We're working on a complete visual refresh to integrate it completely into the look and feel of the new site. But that will come later. For now it's the same KB with slightly different colors under a new domain. All https://kb.askmonty.org/... links should redirect automatically to the correct spot on the new site. Hello, A new question has been asked in "Development" by mamfelt: -------------------------------- Since the current owner of mysql is no longer interested in creating/distributing for and IBM platforms - and, as a joomla user I am accustomed to using mysql as backend I am hoping to package and use mariadb on AIX. So, anyone else who has any (successful) experience with compiling mariadb for/on AIX? If yes, what OS level did you use, and compiler? I am trying with OS 5.3TL7 and AIX 6.1TL7. I will prefer to have it work on AIX 5.3 as that should support AIX 6.1 - but at this point I am just looking for a better starting point.
