The DB on the first hosting is MariaDB, DB on the hosting I am moving to is MyIsam. [Maria-discuss] New Question: How do I keep the graph table and data table in sync?

Hello, A new question has been asked in "OQGRAPH" by prestonthayne: -------------------------------- So I added some rows to the data table before I created the graph table that then showed up just fine. I then added some more rows to the data table and did a select * on the graph table and the new rows weren't there. I did a shortest route query and they showed up. A subsequent select * query to the graph table and they were there. What triggered them to appear? I then added a few more and no matter what I do they won't show up. The last one that won't show up was a two way link ( insert into oq_backing (origid,destid) values (9,10),(10,9) ). That's not a problem is it? And lastly, is there any good documentation/literature around for how oqgraph works and how to use it? I follow the examples exactly as on the site. I create the backing table, I insert some data into the backing table, I attempt to create the graph table and I get an error that the option 'table_data' is unknown. Hi guys, my Google-foo is poor today and I can't find any discussion about "inclusion of Codership's Galera patch to standard code-source of MariaDB". I'd like to see that one could just use the wresp plugin and have a working Galera cluster (even if that would mean to introduce new engine) without having another instance of the package. Hi, I have realised that whenever I am doing any query and want to count number of rows:SELECT COUNT(*) FROM atable WHERE <complicated condition>; On large tables (>10e6 rows), when the count is >100e3, it takes over a second... even when all the indexes are set up, etc... and with large counts, I have not been able to go below ~<1 s. So I would like to implement APPROXIMATE_COUNT(*) function, which checks, if, for example every 10th, 100th or 1000th row is present in my final output... and based on this statistics, return the approximate number of rows that given query produces. I am using MyISAM engine and would like to do the implementation on it, where the total number of rows is automatically stored. Obviously, it would be useful for anybody dealing with these huge aggregate websites, where users do not really need to know if their keyword search returned 1234567890 results or just 1.2e9 results... Please, can you advise me how to start this project? I.e. whether it's easy to do in SQL or whether I would have to start looking somewhere in the source code of MariaDB? I have plenty of time, programming/SQL experience, but no experience with maria/mysql source code. Tomek

Hello, A new question has been asked in "Connect" by benkendrick: -------------------------------- I am attempting run a query against two tables in a remote database with an inner join. These tables reside in a Progress Database. I have used the CONNECT engine via the ODBC connection that I have set up. The first query had 24 columns returned by the query, I got 930 rows as a result. If I reduce the number of columns that I select, the number of rows returned by the database goes up. Even with only two rows select, I only get about 12,000 rows. The total result should be 14,149 rows. I have used the same ODBC connection with LibreOffice Base and received the full number of rows. If I query each table individually, I get the full number of rows (The tables have a 1 to 1 relationship with the current data). I am using MariaDB 10.0.8 32-bit on Windows 7 querying a remote Progress Database. Is there some sort of data limit? [Maria-discuss] Very slow insert with load data infile

Hello, Mariadb is getting slower and slower when I'm inserting a massive amout of data. I'm trying to insert 166 507 066 rows (12go) using load data infile '' into an empty table. I splitted my file in 13 parts of the same size because it was too long to insert in one shot. When I inserted more than 100M rows, it starts to be extremely slow. Here are the time for each load data infile : LOAD DATA INFILE '/tmp/hash/xaa' : 2min 49sec LOAD DATA INFILE '/tmp/hash/xab' : 2min 49sec LOAD DATA INFILE '/tmp/hash/xac' : 3min 48sec LOAD DATA INFILE '/tmp/hash/xad' : 3min 48sec LOAD DATA INFILE '/tmp/hash/xae' : 3min 49sec LOAD DATA INFILE '/tmp/hash/xaf' : 5min 59sec LOAD DATA INFILE '/tmp/hash/xag' : 10min 50sec LOAD DATA INFILE '/tmp/hash/xah' : 20min 7sec LOAD DATA INFILE '/tmp/hash/xai' : 47min 7sec LOAD DATA INFILE '/tmp/hash/xaj' : 4 hours 1 min 9.34 sec ( ouch !) LOAD DATA INFILE '/tmp/hash/xak' : still running... Now the task is running but mariadb is only using 2% cpu and read to the disk at 2500 Kb/sec (which is slow regarding the disk performance). There is a lot of disk space. If insertion speed continue to slow down at this rate, it will take weeks to insert the 3 remainings files ! It's only 166M rows so I think it's not normal. If I disable the "unique" constraint insertion speed is great but I need to be sure there is no duplicate and I also need an index. Can someone explain me what is happening internaly and why it is so slow ? Do you think if I just create an index (not a unique index) it will be faster ? The problem is I specially delegated this task of unique checking to mysql. If no solution, do you know a database or a key/value store with better for performance for this use case ? (create an index and remove duplicate ?) I can rearrange my table structure (at a cost of more disk space usage) to match a key/value structure. Here is my current table structure : CREATE TABLE `wallets` ( `p1` varbinary(20) DEFAULT NULL, `p2` varbinary(20) DEFAULT NULL, `data` varbinary(32) DEFAULT NULL, UNIQUE KEY `p1` (`p1`), UNIQUE KEY `p2` (`p2`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8 ROW_FORMAT=FIXED; Computer specs: 16go RAM and 4x3.1 ghz, 2x1To (with 90% unused disk space) The configuration variables (I tweaked specially for this insertion job) : key_buffer_size = 6G # MyISAM: used with insert to an empty table bulk_insert_buffer_size = 6G # MyISAM/Aria: insert to a non empty table; default 8M myisam_sort_buffer_size = 6G # MyISAM: used for sort but only when : "CREATE INDEX", "ALTER TABLE" or "REPAIR TABLE" read_buffer_size = 6G # MyISAM/Aria/MERGE: allocated for each table scan, for order by, nested query caching, bulk insert into partitions sort_buffer_size = 4M # ALL: allocated each time a session need to do a sort myisam_max_sort_file_size = 128G # MyISAM: tmp file max size I'm using mariadb 5.5.31. And i want to put one(more to come) slave (asynchronous replication) to the cluster. As all my writes are located on 1 node, it's ok. But if i change the node on which the writes come... My slave is not synchronized anymore. I had to change the master of the slave to have the new written node as master. It seems that each galera node write only transactions from "real client" to replication binary log, not the ones from wsrep. Is there a way that i can ask to a Galera cluster node to always write commited transaction on the replication binary log ? Even if the transaction come from wsrep and not "real client" ? To better analyze the problem it would be helpful if we could see how many such queries happened on a server. Is there a counter or a statistic which can provide us this information? i have for at least 5 years a backup server with two mysql-instances * one replication instance listening on port 3307 * one "live" service * a script once a hour stop both instances and rsync replication->live * after that start both intances again * looking at the mysqld logs i am pretty sure there is nothing wrong and only the non.zero response causes systemd to restart the daemon one time well, with MariaDB on Fedora 19 systemd cries about failing service at the same time there is nothing in the mysql-errorlog (both instances using the same) the systemd-units are configured to restart the daemon again if it fails what replaces the mysqld_safe scripts and is done this way unchanged since summer 2011 with MySQL 5.5.x has anybody an idea what causes the "mysqld.service" instance to respond with status 1 instead 0 causing systemd to consider the service as failed while there is nothing uncommon in the mysqld-logs? the "Error reading relay log event: slave SQL thread was killed" as well as "Error reading packet from server" are not relevant in that context because they are from the not failing "replication.service" and normal due shutdown the slave (well, i dislike "error" in that context, but that's OT) interesting is that i have 3 machine-pairs with the 100% identical logic two of them are failing this way nearly every hour (backup schedule 60 minutes) while the one with 5000 tables is running perfect all the time any information i could provide additional to the logs and configs below? ___________________________________________________________________________ Jan 7 20:21:04 localhost backups: stop replication service Jan 7 20:21:04 localhost systemd[1]: Stopping MySQL Replication... The documentation currently warns against using Galera with Fedora [1]. Is that advice still true with Fedora 19+, which defaults to MariaDB? I can see some activity in the bug tracker [2], but nothing the last few months. In a related topic, when are RPMs for Fedora 20 [3] planned? Is there any way I can sponsor work to improve the situation? I found contradictory information about whom the MariaDB trademark belongs to: "The MariaDB Foundation also holds the trademark of the MariaDB server and owns mariadb.org. Hello, A new question has been asked in "MariaDB FAQ" by pranava: -------------------------------- I have some questions on Maria DB Galera Cluster. Q1) If I partition a table in a schema which is part of MariaDB Galera Cluster, can i configure partitions in such a way that a one partition resides in one Node, another partition resides in second Node and so on? I'm trying to shard the data and use Galera cluster nodes to accommodate parts of that shard. Q2) Scenario - During replication of MariaDB Galera Cluster, the Master node gets a request, it processes it and then sends to other nodes for approval, followed by a commit at every node. What if commit happens on majority of nodes except one or two? What happens to that transaction and how about Data consistency among all nodes? Q3) Which protocol is used for communicating between nodes during data replication in MariaDB Galera Cluster? Hi All, We're considering a switch to mariadb (5.5.33a) from mysql (5.5.31) for our production servers. First, some background info about our system 1) ~2000 tables. 3/4th of them are innodb, the rest are myisam 2) All tables are partitioned with ~100 partitions each 3) our largest tables are partitioned (~200 partitions each) and they're all myisam due to space constraints (and other reasons) 4) all our instances are on amazon ec2 on ephemeral store Some of our config parameters open-files-limit 131072 innodb-open-files 16384 table-open-cache 4096 innodb-buffer-pool-size 256M One of the problems we're facing with mysql, and we're hoping to solve with mariadb, is the blowup of the number of open file descriptors when some of our long-running/heavier scripts run. So far we've been able to keep it in control by having our scripts flush at intervals, as well as making individual threads hit different read slaves so as to not open up mulitple copies of myisam fds on a single machine. I do know that the above parameters could be tweaked to set a cap on the number of file descriptors (innodb seems to be a hard limit, so thats under control), but we've set table-open-cache at a high number for performance reasons. Our ideal solution would be to keep the above parameters and not run into a situation where the number of file descriptors grow uncontrollably beyond 70k-80k. It would be preferable to have mariadb close file descriptors once queries are done. We were interested in the mariadb threadpool option as it launches threads dynamically when needed and closes them once it's done. I'm currently testing on a mariadb instance with the default parameters. One of my assumptions with threadpools was that when additional threads were closed, the file descriptors opened for them would also be closed, but upon testing I've seen that this is not the case, and that mariadb behavior as far as threadpools are concerned is exactly the same as mysql. For example, with thread_pool_size=1 and max_threads at 500, if I run 10 identical concurrent queries from different connections on mariadb on a myisam table, it opens up 10 sets of 200 file descriptors. Threadpool_threads spikes up to 10 and drops back down after some time, but all the file descriptors initially opened are still in the open state (2200 fds ). Is this intended behavior for threadpools? I would also be grateful for any tips, reading material or knowledge regarding how mariadb handles file descriptors and if there are any additional parameters that can be tuned to keep the number of file descriptors under control, while not impacting performance too much Thanks in advance. Hello day before yesterday I updated my MySQL Server 5.5.34 to MariaDB 5.5.34 on my Ubuntu 12.04 Server. All went fine but next day, I noticed that the automatic backup script (automysqlbackup) had errors, I read: mysqldump: Couldn't execute 'SELECT /*!40001 SQL_NO_CACHE */ * FROM `EVENTS`': Cannot proceed because system tables used by Event Scheduler were found damaged at server start (1577) mysqldump: Couldn't execute 'show events': Cannot proceed because system tables used by Event Scheduler were found damaged at server start (1577) I searched about it and found the hint to do the command mysql_upgrade (I needed the option --force) and restart the server. This didn't help, no change. When I manually select * from EVENTS from information_schema I get the same error 1577. When I upgraded I made a backup before, so could I just overwrite the existing information_schema with the dump from my backup? Could I destroy something? Thank you. frank
