Hello All, I recently upgraded to MariaDB 10.0.28 and I am having sporadic issues with semi-sync replicating timeouts. Lots of these are logged.... Hi Sergei! I was wondering the same! Justin's explanation is probably correct, but I think that various discussions in this list proven that a part of the community badly wants this feature. I wrote a unit tester in SQL some time ago (I know it may sound weird, but I needed it to test several things, from procedures to query time, and even metrics). It was insanely hard. I mean - I think I can write a unit tester in JavaScript or PHP or even BASH in a few hours, with all the features I want. But SQL is full of traps, so it took weeks (of course it was not my only task). Some of the features that have been discussed in this list could have been implemented as stored procedures. For example, extensions to KILL. It may not be the perfect solution but, well, it is not reasonable to expect that you implement every single need/idea I have during my work. If I could write general purpose stored procedures in any decent language, I would do it, and then would push them to GitHub. It seems that some people agree on this but... still nothing happens. Even PL/SQL parser seems to have higher priority than external languages! :( Is there anything we can do to convince the team? Hi everyone! Since MariaDB has completed another Google Summer of Code program this year, with some great projects as well, the MariaDB Foundation was able to send 2 mentors to the summit in California this year. I was one of the people that had the privilege to go. There were a lot of talks there about community involvement and how to encourage people to contribute. I've picked the ideas that I've found to be most interesting and useful and have blogged [1] about them. I intend to try and apply some of them if possible. Since this is a community matter (albeit more GSoC related), it makes sense to ask for feedback from the community. Hi, At our enterprise we have a DBA-User proxied with "GRANT PROXY ON 'dba'@'%' TO ''@'%'" and backed by pam module (roughly according to [1]) to login from our ldap-accounts. When logging in via pam into the DBA-Role I'm unable to grant the proxy privileges to other users. Following [2] (MySQL docs, because the MariaDB docs are lacking any further information about this) I already tried to "GRANT PROXY ON 'dba'@'%' TO ''@'%' WITH GRANT OPTION" and "GRANT PROXY ON ''@'' TO 'dba'@'%' WITH GRANT OPTION" (as [2] is ambiguous about if the "proxied_user" or the "proxy_user" should have the "WITH GRANT OPTION"), but neither the first grant nor the second one showed any effect. When I grant the proxy privilege with grant option to a local user, this user is able to grant the proxy privileges to other users. So my question is, if it's not possible to grant proxy privileges while one's logged in with a proxy user? MySQL docs page http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.7/en/mysql-options.html *MYSQL_OPT_CONNECT_TIMEOUT (argument type: unsigned int *)* *The connect timeout in seconds.* However I don't find it documented anywhere what the default (client-initiated) connect_timeout will become if not specified in mysql_options(). Or will the client never initiate a timeout in connection phase in such case? We are usng MariaDB C-conn 2.31 so the question here on this list is specifically for MariaDB connector. I didn't find it documented here either. But both MySql and MariaDB have probably inherited this from the old LGPL 3.x connector so this are probably the same in both. Hello list I have to upgrade a cluster and I hoped I can do it safely without a downtime. In my understanding though it is not possible. In my specific case, the cluster is 10.0 and must be upgraded to 10.1. There is a "master" node. Steps are: 1. I upgrade all "slave" nodes 2. I change the "master" 3. I upgrade the old master The problem is that, between 2 and 3, old master is 10.0, and it replicates from 10.1. This is not supported, based on this page: https://mariadb.com/kb/en/mariadb/upgrading-mariadb-upgrading-from-mariadb-… "to prevent 10.1 propagating to 10.0, which is not supported" So my question is, is there a way to upgrade this cluster without writes downtime? Hi All! I am having a Problem with getting mariadb works flawless using a Master/Slave[1] <=> Master/Slave[2] <=> Master/Slave[3] The First Time i was able to insert a row on the Master[1] Server and the data was reproduced/replicated to all servers. At this Time i thinked everything is fine now. But then when i tryed to deleted the new Created Row on Master[1] the Data was only deleted on the Master[1] Server while the others Servers [2] and [3] still had the data! I expected that the deleted row should be also deleted on all master/slave servers but it did not! How can i solve this Problem? And what is actually the Problem with MySQL/MariaDB? I am getting the impression that MariaDB is really bad when it comes to Replication/Sync of Data in a Distributed Architecture. As a Example let say on server has to reboot because of a Cloud maintenance. From what i see this MaraiDB server will be forever corrupted after the restart and never sync again as first it has to manually be adjusted to the master bin log position and second it has also be told to work as a slave after this. Hi, We have a three node MariaDB Galera cluster on version 10.1.14 an we would like to upgrade to 10.1.18. Our approach to this was to offline a node upgrade it and then add it back to the cluster and allow it to do an IST to catch up (rinse and repeat for other two nodes). However this would mean that we will have a period of time where nodes in the cluster will be on different minor versions, is this safe, or will it possibly cause some kind of data corruption or crash? Hello all, is there a reliable cookbook / checklist to implement Large Tables on a SuSE SLES 12 SP1 Linux distribution? I find there there is a lot of old/inaccurate/dodgy information on my search machine travels. The test setup is as follows- Everything enabled for Large Pages as per various online Fora. 128GB RAM 72GB InnoDB buffer size, eight instances. MariaDB is DB is defined in a 52GB RAM disk. (This is a test to tie down TLB and Lx cache misses and high CPU next activity) Any pointers/hints most welcome. I am trying to use dns hostnames vs. ip addresses in mariadb container configuration: --wsrep-cluster-address=gcomm://node1.cluster1.mesos,node2.cluster1.mesos.. --wsrep_node_address=node1.cluster1.mesos --wsrep-new-cluster .. but i see galera error: WSREP: Failed to resolve tcp://node1.cluster1.mesos The address "node1.cluster1.mesos" i can ping 64 bytes from node-x (10.10.30.1): icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.023 ms Would it be possible to configure Galera to use dns names? Hello team- Quick question- I recently just installed mariaDB 10.1.18 (via apt-get) and all went well, no issues.. [Maria-discuss] Best way to scale writes

I have a DB scenario that is very write intensive. Essentially its a large scale hit counter of sorts. Currently we're running on a single 12core server with 6 SSDs in a RAID6 array. But we're looking for a way to scale out write volume by adding more servers, hopefully as conveniently as I might add Apache servers to a website. We see two servers laboring so we add a third to the mix and so on. I'm still looking at the various technologies available to me and was wondering if someone out there had some suggestions on this front. Although Galera Cluster says it scales for write loads too it also says that all servers write the same data and make sure its committed by the time the transaction is completed. So it seems like write performance would never scale because all servers are doing the same write. Maybe I'm missing something. Anyhow some pointers would be appreciated. As Sergei said, MariaDB 10.2 has CHECKs. In old versions, honestly I don't like your solution. When you only want to execute a check like this, triggers are not slow. Just SIGNAL an error is the value of i_must_be_between_7_and_12 is not valid. Hi All, I have the below topology: Master -> Slave (using GTID replication) Master -> Maxscale (Binlog Router) Maxscale -> DR Site (via binlog router) my.cnf is same across all sites: lower-case-table-names=1 autocommit=0 #replication variables log-bin=binlog binlog-format=ROW replicate_annotate_row_events=OFF binlog_annotate_row_events=OFF I have created a table and I could see on slave DB as well as at DR Site DB. When I INSERT records, this is not shown up in Slave DB as well DR Site DB. I have checked replication status and both are sync with master server binlog pos. But the rows reflected in slave and DR site DB only when we COMMIT on both Slave as well DR site DB. Below when I try at Slave DB: MariaDB [dr_repl]> select * from test_dr_repl; Empty set (0.00 sec) MariaDB [dr_repl]> commit; Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.00 sec) MariaDB [dr_repl]> select * from test_dr_repl; +----+------+ | id | val | +----+------+ | 1 | 1 | | 2 | 2 | | 3 | 3 | +----+------+ 3 rows in set (0.00 sec) I am wondering whether I did any weird mistake. Hi all, So basically everyone would love, love, love to have external languages for stored procedures, but no one is working on it... so bad. Please consider something: 1- Some features could be implemented as stored procedures, it's much easier. This has been done in the past (Flexviews, Securich...) but SQL is too limited. 2- I am sure that a lot of people would implement procedures libraries if they could use something like JavaScript or PHP. If we could use Python, stuff like NumPy and SciPy could be used. 3- SQL limitations could be lifted (namespaces for global objects, arrays, argv, cursors based on a prepared statement...) but will you ever do it? Probably not. But if we have external languages, who cares about procedural SQL limitations. I believe that next releases features are selected based on their cost (not only that of course). But please consider points 2 and 3, and try to estimate the cost of features that the community can develop for you, plus the cost of features that won't be really needed anymore if external languages are available (arrays in SQL). There have been quite a few security vulnerabilities with my.cnf stored in the datadir, and that's why since 2005 the server no longer reads my.cnf in the datadir. But mysql_safe still does - and there have been new security vulnerabilities *last month*, caused by my.cnf in the datadir. And finally both MySQL (in 5.7?) and MariaDB (in 10.2) stopped reading my.cnf in the datadir for real. So, having my security(a)mariadb.org hat on, I look at SET PERSIST with a lot of suspicion, because it's nothing else than another attempt of storing server configuration information in the datadir and have it writable by the server itself. Hi Sergei! I moved this back to the mailing list, because of your .FRM explanation, and also because I'd like to explain rasters. A GIS raster is an array of data represented as a raster image. Rasters have "layers" and each layer can have a different measurement in it. It is most commonly used for height maps. The pgsql schema that I sent you is for a personal project of mine that uses Voxel.js (http://voxeljs.com/) to turn real world height maps from the space shuttle (SRTM v3 data) into interpolated 1 meter resolution voxel (minecraft-like, as 1 block = 1 sq meter) landscapes. I intersect the raster data with the GIS data from OSM (open street map) so that I can render buildings, roads, forest areas, rivers, etc, somewhat correctly (overpasses, underhangs, and missing building heights cause significant problems.). The ST_PixelsAsCentroids or ST_PixelsAsPoints can be used to get the specific value for a band in the raster, such as the height in a specific 30sq meter area (for the 1 arcsecond resolution of the SRTM data). First, let me clarify everything here is MariaDB - nothing actually involving the MySQL code. In Arch Linux, I'm running a MariaDB server and client. I installed the mariadb package, built from the source at: http://ftp.heanet.ie/mirrors/mariadb/mariadb-10.1.18/source/mariadb-10.1.18… This provides: - /usr/include/mysql/* (141 .h files) - /usr/lib/libmysqlclient.so - /usr/lib/libmysqld.so (I see this is for embedding a MariaDB server in an application which I don't need, so I'll ignore that for the rest of my message.) I have C++ applications that will access MariaDB, and I thought I also needed mariadb-connector-c, so I built tag v2.3.1 at https://github.com/MariaDB/mariadb-connector-c This provides: - /usr/include/mariadb/* (40 .h files) - /usr/lib/mariadb/libmariadbclient.a - /usr/lib/mariadb/libmariadb.so Q1 - What's the purpose and difference between libmysqlclient, libmariadbclient, and libmariadb? (Ignoring difference shared vs static library.) Q2 - /usr/include/mysql/mysql.h (from http://ftp.heanet.ie/mirrors/mariadb/mariadb-10.1.18/source/mariadb-10.1.18…) and /usr/include/mariadb/mysql.h (from tag v2.3.1 at from https://github.com/MariaDB/mariadb-connector-c) Are quite similar and have a lot of identical code, but are also way different. I ran into that /usr/include/mysql/mysql.h defines: const char * STDCALL mysql_error(MYSQL * myql); But /usr/include/mariadb/mysql.h defines: char * STDCALL mysql_error(MYSQL *mysql); (Note the missing const on the return value.) I got very confused at this point why the same function is declared in each, why they're different, which I should be using, etc.

These notes were from the last session on Friday, 7 October, at the MariaDB Server Developers meeting in Amsterdam at the Booking.com office, headed by Eric Herman, Board Member of the MariaDB Foundation # MariaDB Foundation priorities ## Goal: foster collaboration 1. Product should be called MariaDB Server (MariaDB is the company, since MariaDB Corporation owns the trademark) * needs some copyediting on the MariaDB Foundation website that needs editing 2. the MariaDB Foundation board majority shouldn't be from MariaDB Corporation. Expect that to be fixed within a week, at least 50:50 -- Monty. Is there a community board member? Monty says Serg, but JF/Eric says this is a conflict of interest. Is there a path for community governance? Serg represents the developers. Board selects its own members, says Otto, and there can be a maximum of 10 board members. Now they will think about a community member. 3. The documentation is on mariadb.com (the The MariaDB Knowledge Base: https://mariadb.com/kb/en/) Monty says the documentation is going to stay on mariadb.com. [Maria-discuss] sharding with mariadb?

I wonder how to use sharding with symmetric replication... Does that mean I have to partition every database instance? Does it work with third-party tools, like Vitess (http://vitess.io/)? Thanks
