Hello, A new question has been asked in "MariaDB community" by mdavies5: -------------------------------- Using 5.5.31 on Linux Mint. By default datadir is /var/lib/mysql. Like most users I do not want my data on my boot drive so I moved it to a different physical drive which is always mounted. I then stopped server, reset the basedir in my.cnf and restarted. No problem. After a reboot the log shows multiple errors "Table xxx doesn't exist" although it does. In Mysql workbench the tables are listed in the schema tree but any attempt to access causes workbench to abort. I also tried deleting all data, recreate the schema folders and then the scripts to create the tables and routines and data. Again ok until a reboot. The only thing I haven't tried is dropping the schemas and recreating them in workbench. Relevant data: The new data drive is NTFS. The error messages include: [ERROR] Cannot find or open table pword/pword from the internal data dictionary of InnoDB though the .frm file for the table exists. Maybe you have deleted and recreated InnoDB data files but have forgotten to delete the corresponding .frm files of InnoDB tables, or you have moved .frm files to another database? or, the table contains indexes that this version of the engine doesn't support. Hello, A new question has been asked in "Using MariaDB" by JDoggieIII: -------------------------------- Hi, I am attempting to replace the database in an application with MariaDB. This application is written in C# and previously accessed the database (mostly inserts) with LINQ. When I attempt to insert (other transactions have the same type of issue) I get the error message: "You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MariaDB server version for the right syntax to use near '[t0].[Id], [t0].[BirthYear], [t0].[FirstName], [t0].[Gender], [t0].[LastName], [' at line 1" The table in MariaDB is setup the same as it was in MS SQL. Any thoughts on this subject would be most appreciated. I could go back and remove all use of LINQ and write SQL by hand (which is how I would have implemented it in the first place due to LINQ being the bane of my existence), but if I can get it to work as is it will save a great deal of time, and therefore money. Hi. We get 500k such lines per day: 130517 0:00:02 [Warning] Unsafe statement written to the binary log using statement format since BINLOG_FORMAT = STATEMENT. The statement is unsafe because it uses a LIMIT clause. This is unsafe because the set of rows included cannot be predicted. Statement: UPDATE [...] Is there a way to silence them ? Intuitively, I would expect a companion option to innodb_locks_unsafe_for_binlog, but couldn't find one in the documentation. The queries triggering those warnings are harmless in our case because the update is rolled back at application level on restart (which necessarily happens in case of disaster recovery involving restoring incremental backups). If you want more details to understand what we are doing - shouldn't be needed for this discussion: The table involved is used as a shared task queue. The update happens when a process wants to process a bunch of tasks, up to a limit. Once a task is over, it is deleted by its primary key. So any task assigned to a worker's identifier upon worker startup can be safely assumed to have to be processed, and is released by that worker (effectively rolling back UPDATE's action). This only represents 2MB gzipped, so we can live with it if we must, but it causes undesired noise which may hide real issues. When a query requires an internal temporary tables, and this tables becomes too large to be kept in ram, the table is moved to disk using Aria engine. If the on-disk .MAD file reaches 4GB, an error occurs: {{{ [ERROR] mysqld: The table '/tmp/#sql_74e_0' is full }}} How can we change this limit? In https://kb.askmonty.org/en/aria-max-table-size/ it is recommended to change MAX_ROW, but it only applies for explicitly created temporary tables. Looking at the code I found this in maria_create(): {{{ data_file_length= ((((ulonglong) 1 << ((BLOCK_RECORD_POINTER_SIZE-1) * 8))/2 -1) * maria_block_size); }}} Which amounts to 4GB with default values (8192 for maria_block_size). I created a new DB with aria-block-size = 32768 (the max value), and it still failed at 4GB. Even if it worked, it would mean the max size is only 16GB, and setting a large block size may have performance penalties. So what is the proper fix to increase this limit? A simple example would be: - drop table x; - drop table y; - create table y by executing create_table_y.sql - create table x by executing create_table_x.sql With the mysql command line, I can execute "drop table x;", and I can execute a SQL script with -e "source create_table_x.sql". But what is the good way to bundle all these together into a script which will do all the actions? The only way I can think of is to create a batch file which will call out to mysql for each action. And pass the password as an argument to the batch file. Like this: mysql -u root -p mypassword -e "drop table x;" mysql -u root -p mypassword -e "drop table y;" mysql -u root -p mypassword -e "source create_table_y.sql" mysql -u root -p mypassword -e "source create_table_x.sql" But this seems fairly clunky. I'm testing out MariaDB 5.5 as a replacement for MySQL, but it seems to be leaking memory. I can't figure out what is causing the RAM usage to keep growing until oom-killer kills it. MariaDB 5.5 introduces a new libmysqlclient non-blocking API which utilizes co-routines. The X86 specific GCC ASM co-routine support hid the fact that there was an issue. The only fallback code so far is POSIX user contexts which OpenBSD does not support. "no support for dlopen()" . How does this apply to Windows clients? We always build first on Windows and once we have no errors of any kind we build on Linux if the application exists for that platform (what MONyog does and SQLyog does not) and fix what issues may occur there. This issue has occurred with SQLyog (and as such for a Windows client). I am not coder/developer myself, but on Windows I think we have no other option than statically linking? My application schema appears to be missing. I also tried running "mysql_upgrade --verbose" and that didn't seem to help. Should I have to do something else? For clarity: a 'dummy' parameter doing nothing does not solve our problem. This is a continuation of https://mariadb.atlassian.net/browse/CONC-25. We requested support for the clear-text plugin (or a workaround of any kind) that would allow a client compiled with the MariaDB connector to use PAM authentication with MySQL Enterprise servers from Oracle. I will not dispute Sergei's opinions about Oracle's implementation. But I believe it misses the point. The question is if the MariaDB connector should be a replacement for the C-IPA from Oracle. And the question is nothing else than that. Not the quality of solutions bundled with Enterprise servers from Oracle. I would like to hear opinions not only from 'core developers' like Sergei, but also from wider circles in MariaDB organization (management, marketing) as well as the user community. For us the problem is like this: We introduced support for the clear-text plugin in SQLyog 11.1. In 11.12 beta2 we replaced Oracles connector with MariaDB (and had to removed it again). We had a few crashes and memory leaks with mariaDB Connector but that is getting in control now (ther were bugs in both the API and in oru code). We probably could patch the MariaDB code without much problems to support the full-text plugin - but we don't have a MySQL Enterprise server to test with and we cannot release without proper testing. We have already started getting complaints from users/customers about that what we introduced in 11.1 has been removed in current development tree. It seems that we have quite a lot of customers using Oracle's Enterprise servers wiht Oracle's PAM authentication. A solution/workaround would very much be appreciated. Regards Peter Laursen Webyog

Hello, A new question has been asked in "MariaDB Java Client" by mr_lou_d: -------------------------------- Although I can access the database through Netbeans using this driver and MySQL database, I am having difficulty getting Hibernate to work with the driver. Hibernate.cfg file has these entries: <property name="hibernate.connection.driver_class">org.mariadb.jdbc.Driver</property> <property name="hibernate.connection.url">jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306 /myspecial?zeroDateTimeBehavior=convertToNull [MariaDB - root on myspecial]</property> <property name="hibernate.dialect">org.hibernate.dialect.MySQLDialect</property> Note that the Hibernate plugin can't seem to find (doesn't have) any valid dialects for the mariadb driver. Therefore I edited the above xml to force MySQLDialect. This allowed me to get a little further, but when I try to create new "Hibernate mapping files and pojos from database", I fill in the dialog - but no files are generated. When I follow the same steps with the MySQL Java "Connector", including the same hibernate.reveng, it generates the pojos, and all works fine. Thanks for taking a look at this... Hi Jan, I suspect it's a server issue vs. client, since as you say mysql crashes. No client should be able to do that :) The real test, is to write a program in C against libmysql that uses the server-side prepared statement API and see if you can reproduce it there. Monty and his team definitely would want to know about the crash. Any chance you could run that with mysql running debug and capture a trace? I would want to get that to Monty and team ASAP. Hello, Aria FAQ says: "Multiple concurrent inserters into the same table." However, if I create a table with autoincrement PK, ENGINE=Aria ROW_FORMAT=PAGE (tried also TRANSACTIONAL=1) then there is no concurrency - only 1 thread is working, others are stuck in "Waiting for table level lock". I couldn't find the exact description of Aria engine behaviour in docs/faq/discussions - is it the way it's supposed to be? Thank you!

I learned user accounts and passwords are stored as part of the DBMS, but not as part of the DB. Therefore someone could copy the physical DB-files to an memorystick, move it to another machine and with a fresh installation of MariaDB he can read and modify all data. We create a desktop application and would like to distribute a database with private information to the end users. Is there a way we can hide this information and restrict its access only by using our client application but not by any other client? Sure we could encrypt our secret data, but than the DBMS could not create inizes, constrains, etc. Thank you in advance. Hi All. I use: MariaDB-server-5.5.30-1.x86_64 on CentOS release 6.4 (Final) 2.6.32-358.el6.x86_64 "flush logs" or "flush slow logs" does not recreate the file. In https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.5/en/flush.html there is "With no log_type option, FLUSH LOGS closes and reopens all log files." and "With a log_type option, only the specified log type is flushed." but neither command recreates the log file. I rotate slowlog through crontab: mv /var/log/mysqld-slow.log /var/log/mysqld-slow.log.old ; mysqladmin flush-logs Is it a bug or should it be so for some reason? Best regards, Rafal.

Hi, I was just going to try MariaDB Galera on a couple of Debian 7.0 servers and noticed that the package mariadb-galera-server is not updated to version 5.5.30, it's still 5.5.29 which makes it impossible to install through the repository as it depends on libssl0.9.8 and Debian 7.0 is using libssl1.0.0. When looking at this bugreport https://mariadb.atlassian.net/browse/MDEV-4229 and if I understand it right, it's fixed in version 5.5.30, "Fix Version/s: 5.5.30-galera". Or have I misinterpreted that? Was mariadb-galera-server just missed when the updates where made? Can someone clarify that it's fixed in version 5.5.30 and if the repository is going to be updated? Hi All. I use http://yum.mariadb.org/5.5.30/centos6-amd64/ . Current version is 5.5.30. I would like to use the same version on all my mariadb machines so that (for example) the file format of storage engines would be the same (I make frequently rsyncs between servers). Lets assume that a new version 5.5.31 would be available in repo and then an update would be made. Are updates from 5.5.X to 5.5.Y always safe (small changes) or there can be problems/I should always read release info? Best regards, Rafal.

We discovered that declaring an int(x) of x characters does not seem to impose any restrictions what-so-ever on the size of data that can be stored in that int. Storing an int of greater dimension than that which was declared does NOT even generate a warning. Can someone please tell us why we are allowed to make such declarations and what are there purposes? The host defined in the log (10.112.50.145) isn't even one of the local ips of the hosts in the cluster or my severalnines cluster control ip. It keeps incrementing 2 ports and retrying every 5-6 seconds. It's showing the same thing on two nodes in us-east, but nothing in the error log on the us-west-1 node. Hi, I have data which I want to store in the aria storage engine, the data is inserted then never updated or deleted, although the table could be truncated. This data could potentially be replicated in production. The data is inserted in parallel and once the table reaches a certain capacity data is no long inserted into it. My question is, would I want to turn on the checksum for this data? And, if yes, should I use table checksum or page checksum? What are the advantages / disadvantages of this? I tried searching docs and couldn't find a breakdown so if someone could answer this or point me to a doc or discussion that would be great. Right now I am using DYNAMIC row format since I want the smallest footprint possible. thanks, Scott

Hello, My current (8 yr old bare metal) server is currently running mysql 5.1.62, with just a couple of very small databases: postfixadmin and roundcube I am setting up a shiny new virtualized (ESXi host) server, that now has MariaDB 5.5.30 on it... My question is, can I do a dump from my old server running mysql 5.1.62, then restore that dump to my new server running MariaDB 5.5.30, run mysql_upgrade, and have any kind of reasonable expectation of it working? I'd rather not update the current (production) server to MariaDB (I'm gunshy when it comes to major changes on a production system). If not, then my other option would be to downgrade MariaDB on the new server to 5.1.66... but again, I'd rather not do that if it isn't necessary. Thanks - I'm really looking forward to saying goodbye to mysql (for political reasons, the software itself has served me well these 8 years, it's just too bad that they got bought by Oracle)... Continuing on the interest in libjemalloc, and how we have a thread started on in, especially since Percona is building their server going forward using it (see: https://lists.launchpad.net/maria-discuss/msg00788.html) we've also had requests from Team Tokutek, that TokuDB also requires us building with jemalloc for a good experience. Do you have benchmark results for a single-threaded workload with fast queries (like SELECT one row by PK from a cached table)? Hi, I'm testing multi-source replication with 6 sources, it works great ! Now I'm at the "HA" state, testing a master multi-source with DRBD. To do a safe switch between masters, I have to enable sync_binlog=1 and then the master delay grow... I see that WL#4925 suggest a solution that could work : is that job in progress in MariaDB 10 trunk ? And if not, how to ask to include it ? Thanks! -- Greg

We have noticed a very strange index growth with one of our tables. The data in the table is currently ~ 42GB and has been growing at a rate of about 1 GB per day for the week. Inserts/Updates on the tables are done with statements like: insert into foo ( ...) on duplicate key update ... We have a job which updates about 1/3 of the table 12 times a day. Hi all, I want to consolidate the databases on several servers onto a single server. And all this without or only minimal downtime. After reading an article[1] from the Percona folks I was thinking of using the multi-source replication feature of 10.0. But there are a few things I'm not sure about. Maybe someone can help me out. What MySQL/MariaDB versions are needed before and behind the MariaDB 10 server? My plan/idea/dream was the following: 1. Stop the server on a slave and start it with skip-slave and skip-networking. Write down replication data. 2. Dump the databases I want to move with "mysqldump <db-name>" 3. Load the dump into MariaDB 10.0 and configure replication. This is done for all the databases I want to put onto a single server. The rest should be business as usual. BTW: We use similar grants on all servers. So the MariaDB 10.0 will be setup with the same statements and I don't have to care about the "mysql"-database. Does this sound realistic? Or have I missed something? Hi there, if you follow the instructions regarding Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, the instructions will nit lead to an succesfull installation. apt-get will run into an unresolved dependency state, doing it with aptitude you can resolve the dependency in an second step. Maybe the issue should be fixed, or the docu should be updated. Regards Jörg

Hi, I'd like to evaluate mariadb-galera on some test databases. Our load is at least 90% writes coming from a datastream and I would try to set up a real-world situation and test with real data. Most of the work load is "insert ... on duplicate key update" mass-inserts (actually updates) of about 4MB/10000 rows each. 99% of these run onto 3-4 tables (each around 10GB/7 million rows of size). Total database size is around 800 GB. We have a traditional statement-based master-slave replication, but all these mass-inserts run over a proxy with SET SQL_LOG_BIN=0 in parallel on all systems - no way to process this amount of data single-threaded on the slaves. I was hoping galera would make this easier and make our proxies obsolete. I have some servers I could use for galera as a first step. I wanted to do this for 4 months now but never got into it, I read your request to test the RC and think I should start now hoping to be able to give some valuable feedback: After reading through the documentation and some blogs I have some doubts, but my idea was to do the following: I'd clone the database of an existing slave to a new machine with mariadb-galera (name the host "testgalera1" and rsync the database or use mysqldump). I'd then set up this one as a "normal" statement based slave connected to one of our masters? Afterwards, the next host "testgalera2" would have to be added to the galera-cluster? And after that, I'd set up one of our older database servers and add that to the cluster, too. My idea was to take an older, slower system to see how much this slowes the cluster down and get an idea how much headroom I'd have when I leave those old machines out (the old machines have only 64GB of RAM and slower CPUs). I'd then modify my proxy for all the incoming inserts and add a writer-thread to one of the hosts in the cluster, that data should be replicated by galera to all other galera hosts. All other data should be coming in via the "traditional" replication thread of testgalera1. This should give me a 95-99% real world write situation on the cluster. Adding a host to a running cluster would mean cloning the whole database (of course), but this also means the host I copy from would have to block write access to its tables and buffer all modifications in memory (at least that's how I read the documentation) during the copy process. Looking at the database size and amount of inserts, I am afraid adding a host to the cluster without taking everything down would be impossible - or even if it works fine now it could cause trouble once the database gets just a little bit larger or my load increases a bit. before I start with this - is galera an insane idea regarding my load? Or is it worth a try? Hi, I set up 2 hosts as a galera cluster, one of them is a slave of my main database. The galera hosts are 5.5.28a-MariaDB-a1~precise-log, all other databases are 5.2.12-MariaDB-mariadb115~squeeze-log. The 5.5 slave stops with 1064 errors. I figured this is because of updates using NOW() on timestamp columns, I think they come from a phpmyadmin frontend. In the error log the queries look like this: UPDATE ..., some_timestamp_field = NOW('2012-03-07 17:32:03') WHERE ...primary keys... when I manually execute the query and just remove the NOW so it is a simple update some_timestamp_field = '2012-03-07 17:32:03' and then execute set global sql_slave_skip_counter=1;slave start; everything is fine again. All 5.2 hosts replicate just fine. is this a bug in 5.5? Thanks Jan

Hi All, I would appreciate a little help. I have done everything how it is in the installation steps, but the galera service on the port 4567 is not starting. No errors in mysql or syslog :( Tried on debian and centos as well. Right now server version: 5.5.28a-MariaDB-a1~squeeze-log mariadb.org binary distribution, wsrep_23.7rc1.rXXXX but I have tried with relevant mysql binaries as well. Hi, I have switched from mysql to mariadb using it with the node-mysql client and this has been runing in prod. for some time. I now want to switch to the mariasql client... inspect = require('util').inspect mdbClient = require('mariasql') ... To do the many queries and simplify the source I wanted to write a principal function for queries that simply returns an object (or array) with the query result and then I could just re-use the existing functionality for the render. So I copied this from the examples doSql = (sqlstring) -> c = new mdbClient() c.connect host: 'localhost' db: 'xyz' # NOT database user: 'abc' password: 'defghi' c.on("connect", -> console.log "Client connected" ).on("error", (err) -> console.log "Client error: " + err ).on "close", (hadError) -> console.log "Client closed" c.query(sqlstring).on("result", (res) -> res.on("row", (row) -> console.log "Result row: " + inspect(row) ).on("error", (err) -> console.log "Result error: " + inspect(err) ).on "end", (info) -> console.log "Result finished successfully, number of rows: " + info.numRows ).on "end", -> console.log "Done with all results" c.end() .... and then @get '/': (req,res) -> # LANDING PAGE) result = doSql("select pakz from pkt where pktnr=10001") console.log "919, result = ",result .... @view.... Console log in the doSql functions shows the results correctly but I have been playing around for a while and I can't get the function to return the result for further processing to the @get routine. Seems like I have not understood the scope issues here and probably a few more things, I am still green with this. My questions - what is the correct approach to do pass the query object from the function to the calling program if this is possible at all? - how do I access the individual rows the way I do it with node-mysql like so row[1].myfield ...? - should I create the instance of the mdbClient in the function or rather once at the very beginning of the program, my principal worry being stability even if the db disconnects here and there for some reason? [Maria-discuss] Files under /etc/my.cnf.d/ read by default

Hi guys, while we were packaging MariaDB into Fedora (finally) we used the upstream's cnf files structure, which means /etc/my.cnf, that includes all files from directory /etc/my.cnf.d/* using statement !includedir. That works fine when user installs (not updates) the MariaDB packages without having them installed before. The problem is if user has changed /etc/my.cnf before updating -- then /etc/my.cnf doesn't get updated (!includedir won't be added) and we end with files under /etc/my.cnf.d/* but nothing what includes them. That is quite confusing for users that may change something in /etc/my.cnf.d/client.cnf but nothing happens. Since files under /etc/my.cnf.d/* are empty by default it shouldn't do any harm if all files corresponding with /etc/my.cnf.d/*.cnf template get loaded even without !includedir in /etc/my.cnf. Actually I believe that is what users expect to happen when they see files under /etc/my.cnf.d.. So, that's basically what I'm proposing -- read files under /etc/my.cnf.d/* by default, without a need to use !includedir. What do you think? Regards, Honza

For anyone encountering the "Field 'xxx' doesn't have a default value" when running insert/update/replace statement on MariaDB, I found that this is actually caused by the sql mode STRICT_TRANS_TABLES. This also fixes when a trigger updates the default value of the field. I believe the default options for MariaDB windows installer cause this option to be enabled, whereas I had previous never designed my application for the various modes supported. You can also fix the issue by giving every field in the table an explicit default value of 0 or '' except for text/longtext columns. I choose not to do that since I don't know how many other things change with STRICT_TRANS_TABLES. If you change my.ini / my.cnf to sql-mode="", you won't have this error occur anymore. You can run SELECT @@GLOBAL.sql_mode; on your mysql server and mariadb server to compare what the current settings are. This is my first post to the MariaDB mailing list. Sorry if I did it wrong. Can someone explain the relationship between MySQL and MariaDB code updates? I've read that MariaDB is a drop-in *replacement* for MySQL. But I've also read that MariaDB treats MySQL as an upstream code base. So what's the deal? Does MariaDB have alternative implementations for just some of MySQL's components, and when a new MySQL release comes out, MariaDB updates just those components for which it doesn't have its own versions? Hi, I'm having some problems switching one of our Java/Glassfish-based web applications over from MySQL to to MariaDB. Since the MariaDB project advertises the software as a fully compatible drop- in replacement for MySQL, the first thing I did was simply stop the MySQL server, uninstall it, and then install and start MariaDB (5.5.28a, from Gentoo portage). We have got several C/C++ based application that access our MySQL databases. Those took a recompile, but afterwards continued to work as if nothing had happened. I didn't have as much luck with our glassfish-based web frontend though. The first problem was that the existing MySQL connector is apparently unable to connect to MariaDB, so I deleted the existing JDBC Connection Pools and replaced them with new ones using the MariaDB Java Client instead. This worked on the surface, however now I'm getting a lot of exceptions whenever I'm accessing parts of the application that make use of BINARY type columns. According to the developer (of the web application on question), this is because either MariaDB itself or the connector are returning binary columns as type string, causing the persistance layer to attempt to convert them to a string object. Since the binary columns in question contain various unprintable characters, including zero-bytes, this fails. Can someone please help me with these problems? Guido

Gang, I've installed MariaDB on several Debian/Ubuntu systems in the past few months, without any issues. ~2 days ago on an Unbuntu 12.10 system did an apt-get update/upgrade/dist-upgrade. I believe that MariaDB was updated in that process. After the updates, mysql was "gone" My apps couldn't find it, it wasn't running, etc. I was in a hurry so I had to fall back to the standard mysql package so not a lot of into there. I built a new Ubuntu 12.04 LTS server, added the Maria repo, did an apt-get update/ugprade/dist-upgrade. Rebooted. Here's some output... Hi all. I reported a bug in JIRA - I hit it in MariaDB but it was tagged as "upstream". This brings us to the question: is it ok to report upstream bugs in MariaDB's JIRA? There are 2 reasons why I didn't report it to Oracle. Let me explain. 1) MySQL Ab and Sun never had a lot of data about me or the companies where I worked. They only had my email and my full name, plus some optional info, if I remember correctly. But my old account doesn't work anymore, and the new Oracle's sign up page REQUIRES a lot of data - including a physical address and a work phone. I don't want to provide them too much info about me and my company. 2) I tried to sign up with fake data, but after 2 days I didn't receive a confirm email and my account still doesn't work. They are very slow, or something doesn't work fine in their website, or they detected that some data I wrote is fake (but I got no error message). I think that a company which develops open source software should be glad that people reports bugs, and should make the process easier. If the process is hard, I would prefer to report bugs to MariaDB. But, what does MariaDB think about it? Is it ok to report the bugs to you? Federico Razzoli

Many have asked for this for many years and I was hoping a MariaDB developer would take the reins in implementing a shorter ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE syntax: INSERT INTO `tableName` (`a`,`b`,`c`) VALUES (1,2,3) ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE `a`=VALUES(`a`), `b`=VALUES(`b`), `c`=VALUES(`c`); INSERT INTO `tableName` SET a=1, b=2, c=3 ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE a=1, b=2, c=3; INSERT INTO `tableName` (`a`,`b`,`c`) VALUES (1,2,3) ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE ASFORMENTIONED; INSERT INTO `tableName` SET a=1, b=2, c=3 ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE ASFORMENTIONED; Something like this would certainly make SQL enjoyable again. -Eric Wood

Hello, I am trying to setup a range partitioned table using 5.5.27-MariaDB-log MariaDB Server using a timestamp field. According to the documents, I should be able to use unix_timestamp(ts) as my partitioning function ( http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.5/en/partitioning-range.html ) . I find, however, that it is not possible to use unix_timestamp using mariadb because with mariadb the unix_timestamp function returns an floating point value: mariadb> select unix_timestamp('2012-12-01'); +------------------------------+ | unix_timestamp('2012-12-01') | +------------------------------+ | 1354320000.000000 | +------------------------------+ 1 row in set (0.00 sec) However the MySQL version of unix_timestamp returns an int value: myqsl> select unix_timestamp('2012-12-01'); +------------------------------+ | unix_timestamp('2012-12-01') | +------------------------------+ | 1354320000 | +------------------------------+ 1 row in set (0.06 sec) How have people worked around this issue? Hi, Now Iam trying to migrate from MySQL to MariaDB. Why does the TRUNCATE TABLE statement hang sometimes? What are the reasons for this type of issue? This problem doesn't happen with MySQL, only with MariaDB. The hanging statement is simply: TRUNCATE TABLE sampledb.datatable; What can cause this to happen, and how could I fix it? Another one observation is if the table have some data, may be one or two rows, then the truncate query works successfully. Else the table have a lot of data, query becomes hang. If the same table have more than one connetion, then the truncate table query hangs. How I fix it??? Now Iam blocking. Engine I selected is MyISAM. Hi, We are currently using mariadb a lot over here with traditional replication and I'd like to test the galera alpha in the next weeks. I have two brand-new machines with plenty of SAS disks, some SSDs and 128GB of RAM over here with Ubuntu 12.10 alpha ready to do some testing with our real-world workloads. Before I start compiling myself or mess with binary tar.gz-releases: can I expect deb-releases within the next 2 weeks? That would make life much easier for me and I'd delay starting all the testing by a few days if I knew I would then have debs to start right away. regards Jan

I am using MySQL at present. I came across MariaDB, a drop-in replacement for MySQL. 2 simple questions-- 1) File names in MariaDB, in many cases, are same as those in MySQL. Wouldn't that attract objection from Oracle as 'breach of the copyright' ? 2) May I use MariaDB for commercial distribution (with or without using its source) ?
