[Maria-discuss] connection limit, connection drops

Hello, I'm using MariaDB 5.5.33a on Debian Wheezy. I have problems with connections from our PHP Application to MariaDB. Then there is high traffic the concurrent connections goes up to 1700 - 2200. If we have 1700 - 2200 concurrent connections we have sporadic connection drops like: "Can't connect to mysql ....." I have bumped the max_connection to 10000 and set some sysctl variables: echo 55536 > cat /proc/sys/net/core/somaxconn echo 10000 > /proc/sys/net/core/netdev_max_backlog echo "1024 65535" > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_local_port_range echo "15"> /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_fin_timeout I have also bumped up the open files for the MySQL user. The Mysql user of our application has no user connection limit in mysql.user. The error is still present, does anybody has a idea about it? Thanks! Jonas

Hi all, i'm new to this list :) My setup: MySQL Server 5.5.37 -> Replication -> Galera 10 Cluster (currently 2 nodes) The old MySQL Master is receiving inserts to a table with a auto_increment field (primary key). The Galera Cluster is configured as classic slave to the master. From time to time i'm getting duplicate entry issues on the galera cluster: 140905 12:06:15 [ERROR] Slave SQL: Error 'Duplicate entry '16383' for key 'PRIMARY'' on query. ... 140905 12:06:15 [Warning] Slave: Duplicate entry '16383' for key 'PRIMARY' Error_code: 1062 I cannot see the problem where there could came from... My thought was if the insert (auto_increment) succeeds on the master then is must also succeed on the galera side... someone with an idea on it? BR Otto

We now disable replication while mysql_upgrade is running but this makes us vulnerable to writes while replication is disabled. We could prevent writes while replication is disabled, but we expect this fix will allow us to revert our automation around disabling replication. https://mariadb.atlassian.net/browse/MDEV-6492 - Our understanding is that until we receive this fix, nodes can receive writes that may not be replicated while in donor mode for an rsync SST. We expect this fix to prevent writes while in donor mode for rsync SST. [Maria-discuss] Scaling up cluster results in missing rows on some existing nodes

While scaling up from a single node cluster, we inserted into a table on node 0 and selected the row count for that table on all subsequent nodes (scripts below). For each node that was brought online, we observed that connections to node 0 were suspended during SST, and that there was an additional IST. At this point the nodes reported that they were synced. However, sometimes replication did not occur correctly - the additional nodes reported fewer rows than node 0. Each new node was added by itself, and all other nodes restarted during each scale-up. Nodes that became out-of-sync continued to have an incorrect row count even after restart, and sometimes got further out of sync (i.e. the discrepancy between the number of rows in node 0 and the other nodes increased) We were conducting this experiment to see whether* innodb_disallow_writes *was functioning correctly, but aren't sure whether this issue is related. Has anyone seen similar behavior while scaling up? I build MariaDB from src. I've been running v10.0.12 (r4252). I've upgraded to v10.0.13 (r4346). The client apps still require cmd line "-u" & "-p", e.g. mysqlshow -u root -p But if I simply cp -af /usr/local/etc/mariadb/my.cnf ~/.my.cnf then, the changes are picked up -- from the ~/.my.cnf location. and just mysqlshow works, as previously. Is this change in behavior intentional? What't the correct, expected/intended behavior? If it's changed, how do I now specify and use the default config file location? Grant

[Maria-discuss] Galera Cluster: Do we need binlogs? How to limit the space used by binlogs?

Hello We have quite a busy MariaDB operating in a Galera cluster. The Size of the database is not that large, about 2GB. We get several GB of Binlogs per day as we get a lot of transactions (busy mailserver with Bayes DB and a lot of timestamps being updated) I have set: expire_logs_days = 1 But still those binlogs 'waste' several dozends of GB on each node. Does Galera need those logs for syncing? Are there other ways to limit the size used by the binlogs? hi guys, does anyone know anything about querying images? for example, i have a database with images files (.jpg for example), and i have another image (for example my gmail picture), i want to search images similar or "near" to my image some points that i'm thinking about... images have many data, including meta data, maybe not only querying images (faces for example) but search a barcode or a ocr text, and many others features (i know some features when i worked with some opencv projects) ideas and informations and experiences are wellcome :) -- Roberto Spadim

We are experiencing occasional (once every three weeks or so) crashes of one of the server, namely our third server, which we use as a dedicated donor for the other two. The crashes point to a BF-BF X lock conflict in the same table. I was wondering how to proceed with identifying and localising the problem and counteracting it. We have already tried to rebuild the database in question from an earlier mysql dump, to no effect. Hi! First off let show you what we are trying to achieve, as a picture says more than a thousand words. galera I'm currently working on a high-availability project where we want to use MariaDB 10 and Galera as the backend. Running this system as it is with Haproxy and keepalived works great. We are able to write to the VIP that is being moved between each node and haproxy takes care of redirecting the server with least connections. The problem comes when we want to do a standard master/slave replication from the cluster to an external slave. The slave is set up to connect to the VIP (or I have also been testing with connecting directly to the haproxied ip), and Using_gtid is set to Slave_pos. However, after some time, once the connection changes to a different node through haproxy, the following error occurs: Got fatal error 1236 from master when reading data from binary log: 'Error: connecting slave requested to start from GTID 3-1-422, which is not in the master's binlog' And the Slave_IO_State shows that it's no longer in sync. I have run SELECT @@GLOBAL.gtid_slave_pos; to check what the current GTID for each node is, and they all return: 1-1-2145, however, sometimes if I add a lot of data, that value is different on some nodes, which is why I think the slave gets confused. On the slave, when activating using_gtid=slave_pos, the following gtid_IO_pos appear: 1-1-2464,2-3-420,3-1-422 From what I have read, this should be somewhat correct, as the first value is the server id. However, in the config I have specified that node 1 has server id 1, node 2 has id 2 and so on, and that the same goes for gtid_domain_id. Is this the correct setup or do the nodes need to have the same server-id or gtid_domain_id? Surely there must be a good way to solve this? Is the system not built to handle an asynchronous slave replicating from one random node? Hope I can get some good feedback on this. Hello *, I'm doing a master/slave setup in 2 OpenVZ hosts both with debian 7 and MariaDB 10.0 from the offical repository. The problem is that the slave sometimes bails out with the following error message: Got fatal error 1236 from master when reading data from binary log: 'binlog truncated in the middle of event; consider out of disk space on master; the first event 'mysql-bin.000073' at 33590521, the last event read from 'mysql-bin.000073' at 39362449, the last byte read from 'mysql-bin.000073' at 39362560.' Okay, no problem I start the replication with "START SLAVE" but the next error occurs within 5 minutes or so: Got fatal error 1236 from master when reading data from binary log: 'binlog truncated in the middle of event; consider out of disk space on master; the first event 'mysql-bin.000073' at 39362449, the last event read from 'mysql-bin.000073' at 48667806, the last byte read from 'mysql-bin.000073' at 48668672.' Sometimes it runs so for a week sometimes it fails 3 times within 15 minutes. It seems that the slave read some data and but the master havn't finished writing the data to the binlog. That should be impossible. So after starting the slave again everything is fine again. I can start the replication again with "START SLAVE" and everything is fine again for some times until the error appears again. And it's not that I'm running out of disc space I'm running here out of ideas. B-) Some other info: [mysqld] ... binlog-ignore-db = mysql binlog-ignore-db = test server_id = 10 log_bin = mysql-bin read_only = yes sync_binlog = 1 binlog_format = MIXED expire_logs_days = 14 max_allowed_packet = 1047527424 Any other "esoteric" ideas? -- Greetings... I been trying to trouble shoot this problem for sometime now in both mariadb and percona. I been trying to migrate from Mysql5.6 to mariadb or percona, however in our testings our business app performs terrible when multi master circular replication is on. Our setup, 2 servers same specs, running vmsphere 5.5. VMs are created and CentOs 6.5 installed. On the same hardware, same VM setups, we are running Mysql 5.6 com edition with GTID circular replication with no problems in performance. With Mariadb and Percona as soon as I start slave, the master server performs badly with our business app. If I had to run the same business app on the slave machine, while its receiving updates, no problems, but as soon as I make it a Master the performance drops. While all the binary logging stuff are on, without replication turned on by using start slave; the app performs fine as some people suggested that there might be a performance hit with sync-binlogs etc Ive started a thread about this on dba.stack which has my config files etc posted. http://dba.stackexchange.com/questions/71188/slow-writes-on-percona-server-… This is so far the only issue that is stopping us from migrating to mariadb, and its driving me nuts. Hi all, I'm very inexperienced mariadb/mysql/sql user/admin, but not totally clueless, been maintaining a tiny mysql DB for postfixadmin for years, then converted it to mariadb. We recently started using SOGo (groupware). I hired the SOGo guys to help with the install/config, and have been using it trouble-free for a few months now (love it for the most part), until now. Everything seems to be working fine, but since the upgrade to SOGo 2.2.4 on 6/12, which I am told increases the number of connections it uses to the DB, I have been getting very occasional errors like this (the system error is always either 104 or 0): 2014-06-12 03:30:15.530 sogo-tool[31674] ERROR: could not open MySQL4 connection to database 'sogo': Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading authorization packet', system error: 104 <0x0x236c140[GCSChannelManager]> could not open channel <MySQL4Channel[0x0x22241b0] connection=0x(null)> for URL: mysql://user:password@myhost.com:3306/sogo/sogo_sessions_folder <0x0x236c140[GCSChannelManager]> will prevent opening of this channel 5 seconds after 2014-06-12 03:30:01 -0400 2014-06-12 03:30:15.531 sogo-tool[31674] Can't aquire channel But it only happened once per day after the upgrade, then once it happened twice (about 12 hours apart), and it happened at times when the load would be the lowest (ie, 3:30am for the one above). Googling reveals a lot of reports about this error over the years, some seemingly to be bugs, others DB tuning issues. Should I be looking at tuning: max_connections max_user_connections ? If not, does anyone know where I should start looking? Is there some kind of extra logging I could enable that wouldn't cause serious performance problems? Or... maybe this is simply not something I should be worried about? Thanks for any help/suggestions...

Hello all, How is the max_connections variable used? Apparently it counts the max number of connections for all users combined, but is there a time factor? Ie, is it just simultaneous connections? Or max_connections per day? per hour? Thanks

[Maria-discuss] Galera cluster with asynchronous slave

Hi! First off let show you what we are trying to achieve: Galera Cluster: MariaDBNode1 - HAProxy - keepalived <- MariaDBNode2 - HAProxy - keepalived <- MariaDB Slave node with GTID MariaDBNode3 - HAProxy - keepalived <- I'm currently working on a high-availability project where we want to use MariaDB 10 and Galera as the backend. Running this system as it is with Haproxy and keepalived works great. We are able to write to the VIP that is being moved between each node and haproxy takes care of redirecting the server with least connections. The problem comes when we want to do a standard master/slave replication from the cluster to an external slave. The slave is set up to connect to the VIP (or I have also been testing with connecting directly to the haproxied ip), and Using_gtid is set to Slave_pos. However, after some time, once the connection changes to a different node through haproxy, the following error occurs: Got fatal error 1236 from master when reading data from binary log: 'Error: connecting slave requested to start from GTID 3-1-422, which is not in the master's binlog' And the Slave_IO_State shows that it's no longer in sync. I have run SELECT @@GLOBAL.gtid_slave_pos; to check what the current GTID for each node is, and they all return: 1-1-2145, however, sometimes if I add a lot of data, that value is different on some nodes, which is why I think the slave gets confused. On the slave, when activating using_gtid=slave_pos, the following gtid_IO_pos appear: 1-1-2464,2-3-420,3-1-422 From what I have read, this should be somewhat correct, as the first value is the server id. However, in the config I have specified that node 1 has server id 1, node 2 has id 2 and so on, and that the same goes for gtid_domain_id. Is this the correct setup or do the nodes need to have the same server-id or gtid_domain_id? Surely there must be a good way to solve this? Is the system not built to handle an asynchronous slave replicating from one random node? Hope I can get some good feedback on this. Just as a side-note, I'm fairly new to mariadb and galera cluster, so be gentle :) With best regards Johnny Antonsen

Hello, A new question has been asked in "Archive" by openiduser42: -------------------------------- This documentation says "ARCHIVE allows a maximum of one key. The key can be a PRIMARY KEY on an AUTO_INCREMENT column. However, it has a limitation ...". This sounds like AUTO_INCREMENT is an optional setting that causes a limitation, but trying to create an archive without auto increment gives an error: CREATE TABLE t1 (id int NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (id)) ENGINE = ARCHIVE; Error: Can't create table `test`.`t1` (errno: 140 "Wrong create options") Just adding AUTO_INCREMENT solves the problem. So, is this a bug or AUTO_INCREMENT is mandatory for ARCHIVE tables? So far I see: http://mariadb.org/feedback_plugin/stats/features/ - which has some information but clearly not all information Can we also get access to all the information like if people are using the threadpool or not? Is there a simple command I can issue to see a list of the current users@hosts connected to all of the databases of a running mariadb server? I'm trying to troubleshoot a problem where an update from 5.5.30 to 5.5.37 recently caused all of the connections from my groupware host to start coming from a different hostname, and so were being denied. I need to be able to see if changes that I make change the hostname being used. Thanks, Charles

Dear Folks, I am attempting to download the source code of the audit plugin only, which I want to use with Percona 5.5.37-rel35. I am still waiting for bzr to finish downloading the entire MariaDB source. I'm running Mariadb 10.0.11 on linux/64. Connected to my DB, executing similar queries, one succeeds, the next fails @ error "ERROR 2013 (HY000): Lost connection to MySQL server during query" There's a backtrace included below. I'm not sure what it tells me about the problem, or what to do about. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Hi there, I read this blog post http://monty-says.blogspot.com/2014/05/for-your-eyes-only-or-adding-better.… and wanted to inform you that we at Google has developed on-disk/block-level encryption for Innodb, aria (as used by temporary tables), binlogs and temp-files. The code is not yet published, but we expect it to be within a few weeks or so. We (of course?) think that it would be better if you instead of developing new code spent the time testing/reviewing ours. MariaDB version - 10.0.10 Spider version - 3.2 Platform - CentOs 6.5 Problem: ---------------- We have a simple scenario, where we have a table with Spider storage engine, which is list partitioned based on a column. Each partition is pointing to a shard. Whenever a query is fired from the Master database with a WHERE clause, the WHERE condition is not being pushed to the shard, instead all the data from shard is being transferred to the DB where Spider storage engine is present. I came to know that this issue has been fixed in the Spider storage engine, and also I verified the MariaDB 10.0.9-spider-3.2 source code and it has cond_push and cond_pop functions. Please let me know how else can I enable this condition pushdown. I am able to access a Cassandra column family created with COMPACT storage directive from MariaDB (v10.0.10). However, it does not seem to recognize regular CFs created using CQL3. I am not sure whether I am missing some configuration step in the Cassandra storage engine or it still does not support regular CQL3 CFs. Has anyone able to make Cassandra SE work with regular CQL3 CFs? Hello, Some backup tools make use of table locking to ensure data consistency during the operation. I'm wondering about what happens to the incoming queries for the table being locked. Obviously, the request will be pending until the table is unlocked but this way some timeout value may be reached. Another option could be to accept and queue all requests and replay them once the table is unlocked. So can you tell me how MariaDB is handling such situation. Hi, Roles [1] have been introduced with MariaDB 10.0.5. This feature is very interesting to group and standardize grants in one place. However roles are static, meaning that it is not possible to create a template to apply later on another database. I'm looking for something similar to a stored procedure: CREATE ROLE r1(db); GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON $(db).* TO r1; Here, the role takes a parameter we can use to make privileges a bit more dynamic. We can then apply this role on a dedicated database like: GRANT r1(mydb) TO 'myuser'@'localhost'; Can this already be done or do you think that's a feature that could come? Greetings, I recently upgraded the db server behind an application from MySQL 5.1.73 (as shipped in Ubuntu 10.04 "Lucid") to MariaDB 10.0.11 (from the MariaDB repo). A colleague of mine found an inconsistency between the results produced by the two servers for a given query. What we don't know is, is this a bug (I gather Maria is aiming at 100% compatibility), or is this somehow due to the query relying on unspecified behaviour (that the two db servers are therefore free to optimize differently)? Hi, I installed MariadB 10 but was seeing poor performance and query times, so I rolled back to Mysql and saw better results. I wanted to rollback to Mariadb 5.5 but when going through the steps at http://blog.cpanel.net/mysql-mariadb/ and having the 5.5 repo in my Yum repos lists, it still tries to install MariaDB 10. Does anyone know why or how I can install 5.5 on WHM after installing and removing 10? Cheers Dan

Hi all, MariaDB has worked actively with Fusion-io, and we did release some improvements in a preview release a little over a month ago: https://blog.mariadb.org/significant-performance-boost-with-new-mariadb-pag… This was originally planned to be included into 10.0.10, but when we released the GA, we thought that the feature was not tested thoroughly. Now the code has proven stable we are thinking of merging this into 10.0.12. Yes, we know its already a GA, but this feature will be turned off by default, and the code is safely encapsulated. If you are not using Fusion-io or do not turn it on, there is no effect to you. To check, the changes are in the XtraDB and InnoDB that we ship (storage/xtradb & storage/innobase). Naturally, for those using Fusion-io devices, the benefits are clear - you will see significant improvements in speed and you will increase the lifetime of your cards. Think of this like adding drivers to the Linux kernel from time to time ;) What does everyone think? Package maintainers? Hi, I downloaded this archive: mariadb-10.0.10-linux-x86_64.tar.gz I use the simple my.conf from the documentation but all the commands fail, saying that they need libaio. *$ ./scripts/mysql_install_db --defaults-file=./my.conf Installing MariaDB/MySQL system tables in '(...)/var' ..../bin/mysqld: error while loading shared libraries: libaio.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directoryInstallation of system tables failed! Greetings, I'm not sure if I'm doing something particularly stupid, but I'm having difficulty using InnoDB (the XtraDB version) with MariaDB v.10.0.10. The engine shows as disabled in my configuration for reasons I'm unclear on. I'm using a mirror of the apt repository (from http://mariadb.org/mariadb/repositories/) on Ubuntu 14.04 server, running on x86_64. The currently installed version is 10.0.10+maria-1~trusty . My configuration includes changing the default table type: # defaults to innodb default_storage_engine = aria That works as expected. However, when I create a table specifying `ENGINE=InnoDB`, the table is actually created as an Aria table, and a warning is logged: > show warnings; +---------+------+---------------------------------+ | Level | Code | Message | +---------+------+---------------------------------+ | Warning | 1286 | Unknown storage engine 'InnoDB' | +---------+------+---------------------------------+ Sure enough, the InnoDB engine shows as not supported: > show engines; [...] | InnoDB | NO | Percona-XtraDB, Supports transactions.... | I haven't done anything specifically to disable XtraDB/InnoDB support. Looking through the documentation, knowledge basse, and mailing list archives hasn't turned up anything related. The only thing I found was this, in the documentation for the ignore_builtin_innodb variable: ignore_builtin_innodb Description: In older versions of MariaDB, setting this to 1 resulted in the built in InnoDB storage engine to be ignored. In MariaDB 5.5, InnoDB is the default and is always present, so this variable is ignored and setting it results in a warning. In MariaDB 10.0.x, this variable currently needs to be set. I'm not sure exactly what it means by saying it "needs to be set" with this version of MariaDB (doc bug?). If I add `ignore_builtin_innodb = 1` to my configuration, then the server refuses to start, complaining about unrecognized configuration options in the config, basically anything to do with innodb (innodb_file_per_table, innodb_checksum_algorithm, etc). Am I missing something? Is there a way to use Aria as the default table type while still allowing the use of XtraDB-provided InnoDB tables as well? Any assistance appreciated. Hi All, In the real wold of database cluster multi-master, if the application uses node01 to query the database, its happened that the node01 its down, the other nodes won't be accessible. What happen in that case?

Hi guys, I'd like to package the native MariaDB client library as an RPM for Fedora. But I got into troubles when discussing the name of the RPM. In Fedora we have some rules about packages names and there are some other facts that need to be taken into account. These are restrictions I face: * not to use underscope unless absolutely necessary * follow upstream's name as much as possible (tarball is called mariadb_client-2.0.0-src.tar.gz) * we already have mariadb-libs and there might be mariadb-client packages in the future, if we start follow upstream naming for subpackages, so we cannot use mariadb-libs or mariadb-client Having these restrictions on my mind and seeing mariadb-native-client as a name for Windows installers, I think this would be also the best name for Fedora. In practice the packages will include these files: mariadb-native-client-2.0.0-1.fc20.x86_64.rpm /usr/lib64/mariadb/libmariadb.so.2 LICENSE, README, ... mariadb-native-client-devel-2.0.0-1.fc20.x86_64.rpm /usr/bin/mariadb_config /usr/include/mariadb/* /usr/lib64/mariadb/libmariadb.so /usr/lib64/mariadb/libmysql.so /usr/lib64/mariadb/libmysqlclient.so /usr/lib64/mariadb/libmysqlclient_r.so By this mail I'd like to check if you, MariaDB upstream, will be OK with that (no response means confirmation). Hello, A new question has been asked in "CONNECT" by danielkrysiak: -------------------------------- Hi, I have data in CSV files. Partitioned inside a directory, one file per day, alive (constantly written to, insert at the end). I want to load them on-line (not once a day). Normally I would write peace of code, that remembers the last file and place, so it can easily go back and continue. But the Connect engine looks like a great ready solution for this kind of thing. I'm just not sure about: 1. I can't use indexes, because the file is changed all the time. Can I somehow make sure the data will be visible in a "connect table" always in the same order? 2. About "Multiple File Tables". Whats the order of data inside them? 3. What about simple file format change: add column at the end. Hello, A new question has been asked in "TokuDB" by johnzobolas: -------------------------------- Hi! I downloaded mariadb-10.0.10-linux-x86_64.tar.gz from your website to install and test MariaDB 10.0.10 and specifically the engine TokuDB (and Connect). My questions are: 1)My server's OS is: Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS (GNU/Linux 3.2.0-29-generic x86_64). Is this supported for TokuDB engine or not? (after i installed mariaDB, there was no plugin for TokuDB (ha_tokudb.so?) in the plugins folder...) 2)Also with connect engine: there was indeed a file called ha_connect.so in the plugins folder and i used: install soname 'ha_connect'; and got: ERROR 1126 (HY000): Can't open shared library '/usr/local/mysql/lib/plugin/ha_connect.so' (errno: 2, libodbc.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory). What is wrong here? (With the engines spider and sequence the above command is successfull and they were installed!).
