guys, i'm creating a table with: CREATE TABLE xxx SELECT * FROM yyyy this one take a long time (more than 1 hour) to end... my problem is... i'm using HeidiSQL sometimes to check tables and etc... when i open database it execute a SHOW TABLE STATUS FROM `database` but is blocked while create table don't end, could we implement a non block show table? or a timeout? -- Roberto Spadim SPAEmpresarial Eng. I think we're getting lost in the detail. Beyond dispute are two facts: 1. BINARY is a valid datatype in dynamic columns. 2. JSON cannot represent binary data. It follows that: COLUMN_JSON() cannot (correctly) represent all dynamic column values. So I ask the question is: What *should* COLUMN_JSON() do when a dynamic column contains BINARY values? When I file a bug report, I like to give an expected result. I don't know what it is in this case. Every other decent JSON encoder errors on such input. Is that what Maria should do?

... i was thinking about big table results, internall network use, and optimization ... should be interesting, if we have a database-side way to export data directly to app-client i'm thinking about a configuration like... client app ----(conect)---> app server, app mysql client ----(connect)---> mysql server client app send a post/get/or any other rpc/ipc method app server, execute some functions ask to mysql database and return data sometimes data is too big, and we transfer data from mysql to app, and from app to client, my idea is transfer mysql to client app this idea have some security problems, but let's think about the solution... at app server we send queries to server and report to server save it, server send a ticket, with a ttl or something like it, app them send this ticket to app client app client connect to mysql/mariadb server with a daemon plugin and 'download' this data i didn't google about this yet, but, should this be possible? in this case, i think the json/bson should be interesting since we need to translate the mysql rows/columns to a standard encode (probably json, bson, xml, html table, csv or something like it), i'm thinking about http/https (or any other network file system / file share protocol) protocol at mysql side or... i didn't think if that's possible without some patch... could the mysql server save the result to a file? like a mysqldump but using only SQL interface? maybe a create table with connect engine? ideas are wellcome -- Roberto Spadim

Hello, Recently, we experienced a sudden failure on a 3-node MariaDB Galera cluster (version 10.0.13), and can't find any documentation or discussion of these particular logs. Prior to the crash, our cluster seemed to be experiencing connectivity issues, and this particular node was partitioned from both its peers. We know that we can repair this cluster by bootstrapping a single node, but would like to understand what may have happened to cause this crash. We've highlighted some specific log messages that seemed more significant. The logs of the node in question, b3156374-a4dc-11e4-90ef-7745fb12a381, show that the node continued to function (attempting to find cluster members) for quite some time after this crash. It was unable to connect to fee139da-a4dc-11e4-896b-13e5de7439e0and is still running, still trying to connect at the moment. Any insight into what's going on here, or has anyone seen similar behavior? Looking to see whether this is an effect of the connectivity issues we've seen, or something else entirely. [Maria-discuss] The future of Dynamic Columns

I've been excited about the potential uses of Maria's Dynamic Columns (MDC) since I first read about the them. Now I am starting a new application development and want to use MDC. It's a server-side PHP webapp using the Yii 2.0 MVC framework. These days, for typical webapp pages, I seldom write SQL and use the ORM instead. So I started writing an extension to the Yii 2.0 Active Record ORM to provide an abstract interface to read and write structured dynamic attributes as well as use them in queries. I'm trying to do it so that I can make the same API work using PostgreSQL jsonb and perhaps other things. While this is very interesting work, I have developed a vague uncomfortable feeling about MDC. I have the sense that this wicked powerful feature is suffering from atrophy and possibly apathy. Contributing to this sense: 1. I haven't been able to discuss MDC with anyone who uses it. (If you do, contacts below). 2. In at least two places (one was here <https://mariadb.com/kb/en/mariadb/indexoptimizations-in-dynamic-columns/>) I've read text with the implied meaning, "we may improve such-and-such about MDC if and when people start actually using it." 3. The MDC syntax is so clunky I worry that people who might find it useful are turned away. 4. Did the 5.3 version with numbers for column names turn people off MDC for good? 5. The requirement to specify datatype when querying a dynamic column is agonizing. The manual says it is a limitation of SQL itself (presumably immutable) but PostgreSQL manages to avoid it when querying jsonb doc properties. 6. The lack of indexing of dynamic columns is a severe limitation but PostgreSQL manages to index jsonb document properties. And then... 7. I head a rumor that some kind of JSON features are coming to Maria. So, do Maria's Dynamic Columns have a future? Are my fears that MDC will be neglected as some better solution to the same problem receives all the attention? In this process I discovered the valuable event_statemens_* tables, which I could imagine using for some new monitoring approaches. While studying the content of the event_statemens_* on our production DB server, I have noticed, that almost all ROWS_EXAMINED values were always equal 0! Only on one server, in the events_statements_summary_by_digest table could I find a few entries with ROWS_EXAMINED > 0 (but in those cases, both DIGEST and DIGEST_TEXT were NULL ???) .... which is a real pity, because this value seems to be the best one to be used as some kind of "load" indicator (and it can show very quickly, if a query needs an unreasonable amount of rows to be examined ... etc. ..). Now the questions is, why is this happening? As far as I could see, all other values in the event_statemens_* tables seemed to have reasonable values. Only ROWS_EXAMINED was missing notoriously. Is there special reason for this? Is there some instrumentation setting needed to make this work? Is there some server variable which influences this? or is there some very special technical reason - from the servers logic - which prohibits to gather this value most of the time? By the way, I have also observed - and this might coincide with this issue - that neither do I ever see EXAMINED_ROWS > 0 in `information_schema`.`PROCESSLIST`! Even if I fire a lung running query, which uses a table scan. By the way, the only place where I always - and reliably - see ROWS_EXAMINED is in the slow_query_log! I am really curious about the background (and possible reasons) for this - seemingly - strange behavior. Hi Jan, the root cause for the corruption, we know: NFSv4 bugs. The "dump/restore-to-new-db" path we know as well. Hello, We recently were informed of some security fixes in Mysql 5.5.41: http://www.ubuntu.com/usn/usn-2480-1/ and are wondering whether there are plans to include these in an upcoming MariaDB release. Right now, we are running 10.0.13, so we're trying to plan the next upgrade. We see that there have been similar fixes included in MariaDB 10.0.14 and 10.0.15, so this seems likely. Based on this https://mariadb.com/kb/en/mariadb/development/security/ list of CVE's, it looks like the MariaDB 10.0.15 and MariaDB 5.5.40 include the same security fixes (presumably pulled from Mysql 5.5.40). Can we expect that the fixes from Mysql 5.5.41 will be included in an upcoming MariaDB 10.0.16 release? Would appreciate any insight into the general schedule for addressing these vulnerabilities. This seemed to work pretty well in 10.0.12.0. After we installed a new 10.0.15.0 we could not get this working, all our external tables reported back as 'read-only'. (SQL Error (1036): Table '.....' is read only). We started troubleshooting but couldn't figure out why. So we upgraded the 10.0.12.0 version to 10.0.15.0 as well and now we have the same problem there. I see a lot of changes to the Connect Engine in 10.0.13.0, so that might be the problem. But I cannot downgrade anymore, hence we now have a problem, since we cannot use the functionality anymore due to the fact that we cannot update or insert records into another MSSQL database (through triggers). Does anyone have any clue what could cause this and how to solve this? Hi Folks, We run a very large infra on MariaDB/RHEL6.x/RHEV/NetApp; thousands of VMs, each running MariaDB and very busy. MariaDB is 5.5.32. We recently had some NFS problems which led to minor DB corruption. Luckily, the corruption was isolated to a table holding cache data, and in fact one that is empty in most of our instances. That's the good news. The bad news is that the data dict is really unhappy about that table. - Cannot drop it, we get a nasty stack trace at [1] - Stopping MariaDB, removing the table by hand, restarting MariaDB, attempting to re-create the table hits a data dict error [2]. On disk I can see it created an ibd file, but no frm file. Following the instructions at http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/innodb-troubleshooting-datadict.html does not help. I have straced the process, and it does not seem to even try to create the frm file, so it really looks like it's internal state (data dict), not errors from further down the stack. OS / kernel logs are clean. Is there any reasonable method to cure this "in place" with minimal disruption? (These are large DBs, dump restore is more than awkward.) Hi list, I am using Spider Storage Engine for sharding data and remote access to some innodb tables on 3 different MariaDB 10.0.14 instances. It performs quite well in production except that sometimes, some queries (a minority of them fortunately) do not respond and stay indefinitely in "query end" state in processlist. What can make a query stay indefinitely in "query end" state? Maybe a bug in Spider Storage Engine? Any advice is welcome! Morgan Tocker asked the community's opinions about SHOW ENGINE INNODB MUTEX: http://www.tocker.ca/2013/11/28/show-engine-innodb-mutex.html Despite these opinions, as Valerii Kravchuk notes on Facebook, the command disappeared in the latest 5.7 release. He also notes that the command has never been deprecated (!). Question is: will MariaDB preserve this command? Frankly, I don't know any other convenient way to obtain the same information... Hello, dear users. I am using MariaDB 10.0.14 at CentOS 6.5. And, as I mentioned at the title of this question, the relay-log is not flushed after the slave-relay-log.999999 showed when using "Salve_parallel_threads:10" setting. like showed blow. - binlog_format: ROW - Slave_parallel_threads:10 Everything are working fine except the "slave-relay-log.******" files continue to exist at the disk which will finally cause the disk full. If I change the value of Slave_parallel_threads setting from 10 to 0, the log will be flushed. Howevery "PK duplicate warning" error logs come next. [Maria-discuss] Newbie Question - Multi-Master vs Cluster

Hi all, Up until now we have only directly managed stand alone MySQL instances. For clusters (MySQL) we have used a contractor to build and administrate the clusters. Our current product development requirements and good business practice (high availability of critical databases) now dictate that we move to a multi-server setup. Our goal is to setup at least two servers which will have the same data at all times and which are at separate sites so if the link between the sites goes down, the cell of servers at that site can keep operating. Our database stores text fields and blobs of audio recordings. We read data (SELECT with a WHERE) for 90-95% of our queries, some tables can be populated with hundreds of thousand of rows but normally far fewer. The software we are running which interacts with the database is smart enough to figure out if one of the database servers it is trying to reach is not responding and will hunt through a list of IP's until it successfully connects. I have a couple of questions as this will be our first cluster. (I don't think multi-master will meet our requirements based on the examples available online so I have chosen MariaDB 10 with Galera.) How often is complex management (manual intervention) required such as adding a node back into the cluster after communications between the nodes fails and then is restored? Is it normal, say 90% of the time, for syncing to re-establish automatically? What type of monitoring tools are advised? (Or is it as simple as automatically parsing logs to find errors?) The documented recommendation is 3 servers; we don't have the hardware at the moment so is it ok to start with 2 and add an additional database server at a later time? Alternatively, we could use 2 dedicated servers and 1 virtual server but the documentation states that the cluster only works as quickly as the slowest node. Is that only if you are running queries against the slowest node? Or if you are writing to the slowest node? I am assuming we can run the arbiter (garbd) on one of the existing data nodes. I am assuming we can use the SSL options in the configuration file to secure communication between the servers so if it was sniffed it would not be possible to decode the data. Does anyone have any comments on if this affects reliability? Thank you for any input you have on these questions. Please feel free to ask if you want clarification on anything.

Hi, all I am working on MariaDB with replication topology A->B->C, in which B is the slave of A and also the master of C, thus C contains data of both A and B. and A, B would be modified by application, while C be read only. now let B crash, I alter A to let it be the new master of C, and this time C would be modified by application. then after a period of time, B restart, this time I need let C be the master of B, and I need B has the same data with A and C, thus the topology change from A->B->C to A->C->B. Does this be possible? (I set skip-slave-start for all servers.) Regards.

Hi, I need to find out the function(s) which generate the value of VIRTUAL/PERSISTENT column. According to documentation here- https://mariadb.com/kb/en/mariadb/documentation/sql-commands/data-definitio… I have to use *SHOW CREATE TABLE.. *to get the definition. It is doable of course but It involves painful parsing of returned create table statement to get the required function(s)( As I want to display them in GUI client.) This function(s) is not returned in *show full fields from... *and I can't find any relevant information in INFORMATION_SCHEMA also. So my question is- Is there any better way of getting this information other than using SHOW CREATE TABLE.. and do parsing? or is it the only way of accomplishing it? Regards, Abhishek.

Is 5.5 still being maintained just because it is the last major stable version before 10.x? But then isn't 10.x the way forward? Is 10.x still considered a drop-in replacement for MySQL? Hi! Galera claims that it only supports InnoDB tables (and MyISAM, experimentally). What about storage engines that add functionalities upon another table? For example, can I have a Mroonga or OQGRAPH or CONNECT/PROXY table built over an InnoDB table? As far as I understand this should be supported, since InnoDB will handle transactions. [Maria-discuss] MariaDB OpenSuSE repo does not resolve all conflicts if KDE programs are installed.

I have written about this in another thread. But let us take it from scratch. The other thread is messy. The problem is KDE and certain KDE programs. Quite a lot of those have an option to store data in MySQL (embedded or not) and they install dependent libraries in order to do so. Do this to reproduce and understand the problem: 1) Install OpenSUSE with a GUI. I used xfce desktop, but it should be the same with any destop not based on KDE (with KDE and KDE-derivates, it could be more complicated) 2) During install also install the "LAMP Server". Probably just installing MariaDB 10.10.14 from SuSE's repos later will also do. 3) Now install Amarok (for instance). Inspect dependencies being installed - including two MySQL-related libraries. I used the GUI for install but probably zypper has a --verbose option listing dependencies. See dependencies.jpg. 4) Register MariaDB's repo for SuSE '. See repos.jpg 5) Open "Software management" and search for MariaDB . See packages.jpg 6) MariaDB's RPMs do not resolve dependencies on libraries installed with Amarok (see conflict.jpg). 7) But you can do manually - if using the GUI at least (as in conflicts_resolved.jpg). Now everything installs and works fine after install. If you don't do it right first time (later is too late!) you will encounter issues. For instance I was only able to use command line clients as root. This is reproducible exactly the same way with OpenSuSE 12.3 GA as well as the 'bleeding edge' "OpenSuSE factory". Should not those dependencies be resolved automatically? -- Peter -- Webyog

In MySQL 5.7 documentation: https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.7/en/innodb-parameters.html I read: "As of MySQL 5.7.5, the InnoDB storage engine can no longer be disabled, and the --innodb=OFF and --skip-innodb options are deprecated and have no effect. I already set up a demo environment with 1 master, 3 slaves, 1 client and 1 MaxScale proxy. Since we want to use MariaDB and MaxScale in production environments when it gets out of the Beta state, I am trying to test this technology for some requirements we have. This one might be rather tricky than trivial, though I wanted to discuss this here because I am having struggle setting it up the way I want. If you need more information on the requirements itself let me know so I can figure out if I can provide you with a more detailed description. Requirement: Our web applications excessively use temporary tables. This means, a lot of tables are generated on-the-fly and used within a session. They are deleted by cronjobs after a specified period of time (or after the current http session was closed/invalidated/timed out). The web applications then use these temporary tables to join them with persistent tables on the databases to generate reports. Usually, the table names of temporary tables are named somewhat similar to __tmp_<number>__ . The last part of those table names are equal to a part of the URL of the web application within the “session_id=” variable. For example: + URL: https://url.to.web.app./session_id=123 + temporary table name: __tmp_123 So, depending on the variable “session_id=” in the URL of the application the names of the temporary tables gets generated dynamically from within the application. To reduce network overhead, throughput decrease and other performance parameters, we do not want those tables to be replicated to the slaves. But we do not as well want to have all the read/write load for those temporary tables on one single master machine. So, this is when a multi-master setup comes on the plan. And with it the question on filters and how to manage and distribute the load on the available master servers. Suggestion: Supposing we have 4 master servers (master_00, master_01, master_02 and master_03). Supposing they are set up in a multi-master replication setup. Supposing we use MaxScale as the respective proxy for routing the requests. When a client sends one of those MySQL statements that create or read from a temporary table, we could use the RegEx filter to route the client to specific master machines (not slaves, since write statements are redirected to master servers in any case). Excluding the temporary tables from replication in the server configuration might be mandatory here. Questionnaire: Since the names of those temporary tables are unique throughout their lifecycle (meaning the name could be used again in another session after the table currently holding the name is being deleted), it might come in handy to do an operation such as: Table name: __tmp_<number>__ Operation: <number> MOD x (x being the number of master servers in the cluster) For example: <number> = 6091073567508922368; Number of master servers: 8  Resolves in 6091073567508922368 MOD 4 = 0, so the request gets routed to master_00 (assuming we start counting on 0 for the number of master servers) Regarding the (RegEx) filter, these questions come to mind: + Is it possible to do mathematic operations such as Modulo within the filter definition? + Is it possible to retrieve the number of current master servers being a member of the cluster from within the filter definition? + Is it possible to dynamically build the filter definitions with a script and inject them into a running MaxScale implementation or does MaxScale need to be restarted after changing the configuration? + What happens when one of the masters dies? + Is it possible to have join statements spread over multiple servers? -------------------------------- To view or answer this question please visit: http://mariadb.com/kb/en/maxscale-customisation-filter-routing-of-clients-s…

Google does not provide any source I would be sure of, many different approaches.. so rather asking here.. Given I have a database with latin1 and some latin* collation, the same for tables and I want to convert database, tables and data to utf8. Are the following two commands really all I need to do? I mean if that is really enough to change the data as well.. HI Folks, For the last several years, actually ever since MySQL went to pieces (I mean went to Oracle) I have been running five MariaDB databases in five Australian cities all replicating via a daisy chain. This system has never let me down. I have had times when hardware or network failures have stopped or broken the replication but recovery has always been simple easy and quick. Over the years our IT Infrastructure team have replaced and upgraded several of the servers and I've simply installed MariaDB on the new servers and set the ini files and copied the data and that's all I've had to do. Today the Infrastructure team replaced one of the servers. The old server was running WIN SERVER 2008 and the new server is running WIN SERVER 2012. I've just installed Maria DB on the new server and reset the ini file, loaded the data and restarted the replication. Everything went perfect as expected. (I've learnt to expect nothing less from MariaDB) The databases are replicating perfectly and all user interfaces are connecting and running perfectly. HOWEVER. (AND HERE IS THE BAD NEWS):- Every six seconds I'm getting the following two log entries on the new server. 141206 21:56:30 [Note] Slave: received end packet from server, apparent master shutdown: 141206 21:56:30 [Note] Slave I/O thread: Failed reading log event, reconnecting to retry, log 'repbin.000071' at position 12487 Six seconds later ... 141206 21:56:36 [Note] Slave: received end packet from server, apparent master shutdown: 141206 21:56:36 [Note] Slave I/O thread: Failed reading log event, reconnecting to retry, log 'repbin.000071' at position 12487 And so on ... There are no log entries on this slave's master indicating any outage or stoppage. Note:- the rep_log_pos changes whenever there has been a replication activity as you would expect. Now I know I'm running an old version of MariaDB (version 5.3.4) but I've never had a problem since I first installed and I suppose I'm a victim of the "if it ain't broken don't fix it" philosophy but I haven't, until now been able to justify the expense and time of upgrading what is working perfectly. OK, for that, shoot me down in flames if you like but has anyone got any ideas what may be causing this? The database size is 8.6 GB with 156 tables (all are Innodb), 32 views, 98 functions, 292 procedures and 3 triggers. It drives around 100 users across the five replicated sites. I have OpenSuSE 12.3. It ships with MariaDB 1.0.13 - and with no TokuDB and no Galera options. I would like to upgrade to 10.0.14 and also enable TokuDB. And it does not seem that an upgrade will be available from SuSE software repositories. There are a lot of RPMs in the yum repository http://mirror.23media.de/mariadb/mariadb-10.0.14/yum/. But does anyone know if they will work with SuSE 12.3? Runtime environment (kernel, glibc etc.) should be compatible of course, and also RPMs for Redhat/Fedora/CentOS systems will not alwyas work on SuSE, as SuSE has some specific requirements for the SPECS. When I used SuSE 10.x many years ago, the generic "glibc23" RPMs available worked perfectly. Note: I *only* want to install a server that can be handled by SuSE's YaST package manager! So suggestons for any other solution (such as using the tarball) is not an option. Or it would be last resort. I would not mind give it a try if someone can advise what I should try. I have SuSE running in a VM and I will be able to return to a snapshot of the system easily if something goes wrong. -- Peter

[Maria-discuss] MariaDB 10.1 uses huge amount of memory onWndows

Please see attached imaged - a screenshot of Windows Task manager. I have a lot of MySQL and MariaDB servers installed (all needed for application testing). It is noticeable that MariaDB 10.1 uses around twice as much as much memory as compared to MariaDB 10.0, MySQL 5.6 and 5.7 (5 GB versus 2.5 GB in rough numbers). Even more surprising to me as P_S is not running with 10.1 (as I understand). Further I have MariaDB 10.0 running virtualized in OpenSuSE 12.3 inside Virtualbox. The process for the virtual machine use only around 10% or memory as compared to MariaDB 10.0 running natively on Windows (there is also an active VM running Mint Linux - but MySQL is not running there currently) I also have a number of older MySQL servers (5.0, 5.1 and 5.5) The use much less memory. That is expected as the configuration reserves smaller buffers. Both MariaDB servers in Windows use the configuration created by the installer. MySQL 5.6 adn 57 servers use the MySQL Installer standard "developer machine" configuration. The configuraiton of MariaDB 10 in SuSE is as shipped with the distro (I did not check it actually). None of the servers have been connected to since system was restarted. System has been running for approximately 4 hours and all servers start with Windows. The VM with SuSE has been running for approxmately 2 hours. In the attached image I have framed and starred my observations. I want to emphatize, that I don't face any problems with this at all. I have 32 GB RAM and 4 CPUs each capable of processing 2 parallel threads,and I can run Windows 7 with all the servers you see (and simultaneously use the system iinteractively for Internet browsing, playing media, processing photos, document creation/editing and what else you would do with a desktop system), as well as have the two VMs (both configured with an upper resource limit of 24 GB RAM and 6 CPU threads). The memory may be released if it is required by other processes. I don't think it is a problem to use memory if it is available if it will be released when it is required elsewhere (on the opposite it was a little expensive, so it would be a shame if it was not used at all!) But still I find the find the MariaDB 10.1 number for memory use so much *off* as compared to comparable servers, that I think I should mention the observation here. IMO it should be understood **why** it happens and next it can be decided **if** a fix is necessary or not. -- Peter -- Webyog

I have my production code which needs to be persisted to disk, but for my unit tests, it would be great to have an in-memory DB. I'm in the Java world and I've tried HSQLDB but its SQL implementation is way too different than that of MariaDB. Any ideas? We have copied the my.cnf configuration file, and templated it so that automated deployment of custom configurations are simpler. However, Apache does not allow inclusion of GPL/LGPL material [2]. We may have to write our own version of the configuration file from scratch, or delete our templated version and resort to `sed` commands to modify the default (yuck!). We are working with a id-project where Sybase is feeding data into a ldap directory, now we need do to a upgrade witch means that the connector to sybase are lost. To get that to work again we need to have new views build in Sybase and since we dont own the Sybase database that is crazy expenciv. So we thought about using MariaDB as a middleware and store data from Sybase in it and use that instead as data source for our directory. So my question is if it's possible in MariaDB to run a query that reads data from a Sybase DB and store the result? Hi all, Due to space constraints we are considering the innodb compression option for some of our larger tables. We're not compressing all the tables, but only a select few to begin with. Our current planned process for this is to SET GLOBAL innodb_file_format=Barracuda; create compressed table, transfer data, and switch innodb_file_format back to Antelope. My question is around having this mix of table file formats in the same database. I've tried test queries and they were fine, but is it ok to have a mix of both Antelope and Barracuda file format tables in the db for a production environment? Thanks, Rohan

Since I had a few issues with it thought I would provide some information for those who are trying to install and help whoever is responsible for the Maria Repository. First, I was successful using the Centos 6 10.1 package via Yum with this repository setting pulled from Mariadb Repository setup. # MariaDB 10.1 CentOS repository list - created 2014-10-29 14:33 UTC # http://mariadb.org/mariadb/repositories/ [mariadb] name = MariaDB baseurl = http://yum.mariadb.org/10.1/centos6-amd64 gpgkey=https://yum.mariadb.org/RPM-GPG-KEY-MariaDB gpgcheck=1 Using "yum clean all" and yum update the following packages installed successfully. I've been building MySQL 5.6 from source for a while. I recently started testing MariaDB Galera Cluster 10.0. When I build MariaDB Galera Cluster from source, I originally used the same cmake flags that I used for MySQL 5.6, along with the additional flags specified in Codership's documentation: http://galeracluster.com/documentation-webpages/installmariadbsrc.html My build process basically comes down to this: cmake . -L -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=$MYQL_PREFIX -DMYSQL_DATADIR=$MYSQL_DATA -DWITH_SSL=yes -DWITH_READLINE=ON -DWITH_PIC=ON -DWITH_UNIT_TESTS=0 -DWITH_WSREP=ON -DWITH_INNODB_DISALLOW_WRITES=1 make make install With MariaDB Galera Cluster 10.0.14, the server that gets built does not have the Archive and Blackhole storage engines enabled by default. I do see that "ha_archive.so" and "ha_blackhole.so" were built and placed in plugin_dir, so I could probably enable them manually with INSTALL PLUGIN. This surprised me, because these engines are enabled by default in MySQL 5.6, and I see no mention of this difference here: https://mariadb.com/kb/en/mariadb/mariadb-vs-mysql-compatibility/#incompati… Of course, if I add "-DWITH_ARCHIVE_STORAGE_ENGINE=ON -DWITH_BLACKHOLE_STORAGE_ENGINE=ON" to my cmake arguments, then these engines are enabled in the MariaDB server that gets built. Is this difference intentional? If so, you may want to add a note to the documentation referenced above. If it's an unintentional discrepancy, I can submit a bug report on JIRA. Thanks, Geoff

I've noticed some strange behavior that might be a bug in the current implementation of the !includedir directive for my.cnf files. I wanted to get the opinion of the MariaDB community on whether this is working as intended before reporting it. Let's say I have a line like the following in /etc/my.cnf: !includedir /home/mysql/conf MariaDB should load any configuration variables from files with the extension ".cnf" in that directory. The problem I ran into is that MariaDB appears to determine the extension based on the first dot ('.') in the filename. If I have a file with a full path like this: /home/mysql/conf/mariadb10.0-galera.cnf MariaDB appears to think that the extension of the file is 0-galera.cnf, so it won't load it. If the file is renamed to something like this (with no extra dots): /home/mysql/conf/mariadb10-0-galera.cnf MariaDB properly loads the configuration file. Is this a bug that should be reported? System info: OS: RHEL 6 Arch: x86_64 MariaDB build: MariaDB Galera Cluster 10.0.14, built from source Slightly related note: I don't see any documentation on the !includedir directive in the MariaDB knowledgebase. Hello, A new question has been asked in "Galera" by getreal: -------------------------------- Maybe I'm just missing it somewhere on the site, but I'm trying to find a way to contrast overall memory requirements for a Galera cluster compared to that of stand-alone mySQL instances. In my profession we build servers that are typically 32GB overall memory running an instance of mySQL within, in which we hand 16GB to innodb_buffer_pool_size (the actually size of the mySQL database files is upwards of four times that). The server does other things by the way (a 6 GB JVM is also loaded). Our buffer pool hit rate is typically a nice high number (over 99%) with that 16GB allocated. So let's take a simple scenario - 6 of my stand-alone servers are going to evolve to MariaDB + Galera cluster. I completely realize we need 3 nodes minimum on the Galera side, and I realize we now are accommodating about 6 x 64GB of former mySQL database files (as long as we presume the database files overall size in mariaDB is about the same as that of mySQL). So I've got 384 GB of database f iles, and let's suppose I want to replace this with a 3 node mariaDB+Galera cluster. I know that 384 GB has to be replicated amongst those three nodes, storage sizing is not so complex, and I know I can probably get enough CPU under these node with 4 vCPUs. But my question is more so around innodb_buffer_pool size for each node. Do I need to run 6 x 16 GB = 96 GB for innodb_buffer_pool_size in each node of that Galera cluster (essentially the same ratio 1:4 as I did in mySQL instances with my stand-alone servers) ? My underlying filesystem is (or at least can be) ZFS, so actually creating the snapshots is easy enough. But how do I connect to the files contained in the snapshot so that I can query the tables via MariaDB? If it's easier through another storage engine, I could consider that, though I do need row locking in the current data. Hi, It only seems to happen when replicating DROP TABLE IF NOT EXISTS from a master, not when running it directly on that server. I can replicate this problem every time. Hi all, I'm getting annoying errors when I want to switch clients from MySQL to MariaDB. I use Debian Wheezy, and MariaDB 10.0 repositories, then I install mariadb-common & libmariadbclient. Then I restart services using MySQL Client Library and I have a lot of warnings like these on my MariaDB Server (with Galera or not) : [Warning] Aborted connection 136305 to db: 'db' user: 'user' host: 'xx.xx.xx.xx' (Unknown error) I do not have more information in logs. This is not a network problem, because it occurs with 127.0.0.1 too. What do I miss ? Thank you a lot. Florent

Hello We would like to upgrade from 5.5.33a+maria-1~saucy to 5.5.39+maria-1~saucy on a running cluster without service interruption. So we took down one node, upgraded and restarted that instance... It fails to connect to the next gcomm server. MariaDB fails to start. We tested network connectivity, there is no issue we could detect. We downgraded back to 5.5.33a+maria-1~saucy and the connectivity issue disappeared. So my question here is: Is it possible to upgrade the cluster without interruption, or do we have to shut the whole cluster down, upgrade every node and then restart everything? In regards to your query on access to NVMFS, yes currently its supported on Atomics Series of ioMemory cards(PX/SX), I would suggest its best to get in touch with the SanDisk Sales team (formally Fusion-io inc.,) and request for the LA NVMFS 1.0 (Limited Edition). In this MySQL manual page: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.6/en/implicit-commit.html I read: "UNLOCK TABLES commits a transaction only if any tables currently have been locked with LOCK TABLES to acquire nontransactional table locks." Guys, today i use some others solutions like redis memcache mongo, etc they are nosql database/cache, and we have handler socket with innodb in mariadb that i use too The question is... i always have problem with security since some of them don't have login security, ssl, etc... I know that's possible, but what's the pros/cons about including others parsers/optimizer inside mariadb code? what i'm saying? something at client side like: mysql_connect() mysql_query("sql query") while(mysql_fetch()){ something... } mysql_free() but instead of sql we could execute nosql, like: mysql_connect() mysql_query("some handler socket/memcached get","parser = handler socket/memcached") or mysql_parser("handler socket/memcached") mysql_query("some handler socket/memcached get") while(mysql_fetch()){ something... } mysql_free() what i see as pros/cons; pros: only one protocol with auth/security, less cpu/memory consume? less software to take care, understand, update, easier integration between daemon plugins and mysql tools, single point of configuration cons: one single point of failure, time to develop, integrate with mysql server (since we need changes to mysql protocol) what you think? -- Roberto Spadim

[Maria-discuss] .ibd files remaining after DROP TABLE

Hi, After dropping tables on my MariaDB 10.0.13 database server, the .frm files are removed but the .ibd files remain behind. Has anyone seen this before? Thanks....
