Hi all In this page: https://mariadb.com/kb/en/mariadb/connect/ I see that CONNECT 1.03.0007 (that is in MariaDB 10.1.5) is gamma-quality, but 1.04.0003 (that is in 10.1.9) is beta. I am confused. Is this a documentation mistake? Or maybe many new bugs were found? Regards Federico

I’m considering moving from MySql to MariaDB so I did a dump today and attempted an import. It failed with the “Specified key was too long; max key length is 767 bytes” error. I dealt with this in MySql and knew to change file format to Barracuda. I zapped the partial import, did a fresh mysql_install_db, restarted the service and tried again to no avail. To confirm my settings immediately after the failure: MariaDB [(none)]> SHOW VARIABLES LIKE 'innodb_file_%'; +--------------------------+-----------+ | Variable_name | Value | +--------------------------+-----------+ | innodb_file_format | Barracuda | | innodb_file_format_check | ON | | innodb_file_format_max | Barracuda | | innodb_file_per_table | ON | +--------------------------+—————+ Does anyone have any suggestions? The dump is 795M compressed so it’s difficult to find the exact place where the problem is (I used zcat for the import). My distribution is: 10.0.22-MariaDB running on Ubuntu 15.04 Thanks in advance.

MariaDB 10.0.22 I saw weird things a couple of times: I start clean MariaDB with theses options in the configuration file: foo.replicate_wild_do_table = foo_live.% foo.replicate_ignore_table = foo_live.schema_updates Then I execute RESET SLAVE "foo" ALL just to be sure there is no such connection. Then I import the dump of master, and set master options like host, user, password, etc. Then I execute START SLAVE "foo" Then SHOW SLAVE "foo" reveals empty 'Replicate_Wild_Do_Table' and 'Replicate_Ignore_Table'. (And replication shortly breaks, because foo_live.schema_updates wasn't imported). I can fix this by restarting MariaDB. I'd expect the foo.replicate_* options are taking effect anytime. As a work-around I'd set those options dynamically after dump is imported. (I will fill MDEV in case it is confirmed as a bug)

I'm looking for recommendations on MariaDB Performance Analysis tools. 1. I try MySQL workbench, but much of the capability is disabled. I get an error when I click on the Dashboard "This feature requires MySQL version 5.6.6 or newer". 2. I'm wondering if there are some good scripts to help identify key performance metrics from the performance_schema. I'd like to see a capability similar to an Oracle AWR report. I spent a fair amount of time doing google searches, and found some information on the performance_schema: https://php-built.com/enabling-performance-monitoring-for-mariadb-and-mysql/ , but I really think there should be something better. [Maria-discuss] Galera Cluster: Cluster Blocked, when one node down?

Hello We use MariaDB Galera Cluster for our email service platform. We decided to use Galera to create a high availability platform. After a year of operation, we start to relaize, that somehow Galera Failures seem to be the most common cause for outages we had in the past. So I wonder if others operating galera clusters also observe this situation: All our services using DB connections use a DNS round-robin name, to connect to one of our three galera instances. While testing this setup, we usualy killed one instance, or disconnected the node from the network to simulate an outage. In this situation, this works as expected. The client connect to the two remaining nodes, no service outage. When the node is re-started it is being re-synced quickly and service with three nodes is restored. Now we experienced a few galera cluster fails, which seem to happen this way: One of the nodes is getting a lot of load. DDOS Attacks, Memory Leaks or similar, which just renders the whole physical machine laggy for a short time. So the affected MariaDB node is being thrown out of the cluster by the two other nodes, probably for not syncing fast enough anymore. But as the node is not 'down' completely, it still accepts connections from the DB clients, but does not reply to them and seems to remain in a 'db locked' situation. Strangely this then also affects the two remaining nodes, who also go into 'locked' mode and do not reply to queries on the time expected by the application anymore. Of course this then causes more DB clients (IMAP, SMTP-Auth, etc) to spawn and to create DB connections worsening the whole situation. The situation seemingly can only be resolved by shuting down the MariaDB node that got thrown out of the cluster. Then the situations normalizes with the two remaining nodes and the third one can be restarted. Is this expected behaviour? Is there a way to tell a MariaDB node that got excluded from the cluster to shut himself down completely so it does NOT accept any more connections from clients, blocking the whole service? Hi guys, could we include a configuration at mysqld_mult and mysqld_safe? at linux killing the mysqld process is a big problem, i prefer leave it as the last process to kill check this post : http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/articles/servers-storage-dev/oom-killer-1… in this case oracle is the last tprocess to kill they use the /proc kernel interface to set the oom_adj i don't read the mysqld_safe and mysqld_multi, but could we include this at my.cnf? my last crash was a big trouble, if kernel killed the others process before mysql maybe the mysqld couldn't be killed thanks guys i will create a MDEV about it -- Roberto Spadim

[Maria-discuss] Queries Not Completing After Backup

We have a three node (db1, db2, db3) galera cluster with MariaDB 10.0.22 on CentOS 6.7. A couple days ago I upgraded to 10.1.9. Xtrabackup (2.3.2) is run every night on each node at 1am, 2am, and 3am respectively. Before the backup starts, the node is desynced. The first night after upgrading to 10.1.9, the problem began. All connections were going to db1 until the backup started when db1 was removed from the routing pool and new connections began going to db2. At that time there was little traffic aside from the backup; much of it is probably monitoring queries. Our monitoring shows that running threads went from about 2 just before the backup finished around 1:32am to about 150 just after. At the same time, the running threads on db2 went from 1 to 10. After the backup completed, all new connections were going to db1 again. The running threads on db1 continued to slowly grow until the queries that are stuck took up all of the server processes on our application servers and we were alerted around 3:50am. I checked the process list and almost all of the queries were in the "query end" state and I think they were all write queries. I tried to kill most of them but they just stayed in the same state. I restarted db2 to try to kick the cluster without losing data. I had to force the shutdown since three threads never ended after about 10 minutes of waiting. The running threads on db1 returned to normal. db2 had do do a full SST which took until 6:05 to complete. At that time, the running processes on db1 began to increase again. When db2 was back up I downgraded to 10.1.22 and rejoined it to the cluster. I tried to restart db1, but it needed a full SST so I left it down. A bit later I took down db3 to downgrade it, too at that went fine. The cluster was fine through the day during normal business operation. The next night only db2 and db3 were up and were running 10.0.22. What appears to be the same problem started at 3:31am, when xtrabackup paused galera ("Provider paused at 8c53b634-9514-11e4-b8bd-dab05673fb36:875650526") on db3 for the backup. At that time the running threads on db2 shot up and slowly increased until I shut it down at 6:28. I had to kill it again due to three threads on ending. db3 showed nothing unusual in the logs. I got the innodb engine status from db2 three times a few minutes apart before I restarted; they are attached. Additionally, I attached an excerpt from the logs on db2 and db3 during the second incident and the my.cnf from one of the servers, it's basically the same for the others. I'm working on getting a clean set of logs from the first incident, but from what I initially saw, they are basically the same as the second set of logs. I'm ready if the problem arises again and I'll try to get more information including SHOW GLOBAL STATUS. Our environment hasn't changed for at least a month and the issue first appeared after upgrading to 10.1.9, but since it didn't go away after downgrading, I'm not sure where the issue is. Hi all, I'm using MariaDB Cluster with 3 servers and I often have split brain because of network. When a network split brain happen, only one node is disconnected. What is for you the best choice for SST or maybe IST method for this configuration ? (N.B.: I already tried rsync method but i'm not really satisfied with it). I have another question, I tried xtrabackup-v2 but it seems this method can't be use for bootstrapping while database is on. Does xtrabackup method can do this ? Hi we run DBaaS (Galera Cluster) with growing customer base. We also offer MongoDB, where we have commercial support from MongoDB (we can recommend it). MariaDB is included in RHEL, so Red Hat offers support. We anyway pay for Redhat support. So it means we don't need to buy support from MariaDB? This is the final stage from my thread regarding a botched F22->23 upgrade which hosed bacula. I have been on to bacula support and they claim not to support Maria. Well, "not support" isn't right, just "not explicitly tested" - I know everything was ok under F22/Maria as I have another server to upgrade which runs fine now with this setup. It seems the MySQL tables were created when bacula was installed several iterations of Fedora ago, and at that time they were of the .MYD, .MYI style. Each time fedora was updated, these were carried forwards - possibly through the swap from when MySQL was native to it becoming Maria, as we see now. That's why all the existing ones are in the form with the extensions I mentioned. So, I'm now in a situation where it seems I have to create one last table ("Snapshot") and am having trouble because it somehow has been created but not in the .MYD, MYI style. The create table command is supplied already for me to enter - how can I remove the phantom one and create it again in the format the rest of the tables are in please?

I am facing problems installing MariaDB 10.1 on OpenSuSE LEAP (42.1) from the MariaDB repository for OpenSUSE 13. Even though built on/for SuSE 13.1 it worked fine on SuSE 13.2 as well. But not on LEAP: Please see attached screenshot from YaST (GUI) installer environment. I think that tells everything. 10.1 packages displayed here are from MariaDB repo (that registers with no problem with YaST/zypper, BTW). 10.0 and other packages displayed are from official SuSE repo. The 10.0 server from SuSE repo works fine, but I prefer 10.1 on this new VM. I am not interested in a 'hack-solution'. I can wait for a proper solution. But something (the memory allocation manager, seemingly) seems changed in OpenSuSE between-from 13.2 and LEAP creating a dependency problem with **MariaDB_from_MariaDB**. Is a new repo required to support OpenSUSE LEAP? @Daniel? -- Peter -- Webyog

Hello, I've recently discovered the QueryRewrite plugin. I was wondering if there was any thought, or active work on making the rewrite rules associated with a connection/session. [Maria-discuss] Connect Engine with ODBC

Hi, I've been experimenting with the new Connect engine and the ODBC table type. I've installed MariaDB 10.1.17 on a test machine. I have an ODBC diver connected to a C-ISAM database. I am able to use this ODBC to connect from a MS Access 2013 database and despite some restrictions related to the C-ISAM DB it works well I have also been able to connect successfully from MariaDB and create connect tables. The only issue I'm having with the ODBC table type is the lack of indexes. However, I have noticed that in the MariaDB documentation accessible from https://mariadb.com/kb/en/mariadb/connect-table-types-odbc-table-type-acces… there is a note :- "Version 1.04 (from MariaDB 10.1.6<https://mariadb.com/kb/en/mariadb-1016-release-notes/>) adds remote indexing facility to the ODBC table type." As I've now installed 10.1.17 on my test machine, would someone be able to provide more information on the status of remote indexing, how it works and on how I may be able to make use of this? I am using HeidiSQL (Vers. 9.1.0.4867) as a front end tool and when I try to create indexes for the connect tables I get a message "SQL Error (1105): Table type ODBC is not indexable". [Maria-discuss] Replication to galera cluster

Hi, I've tried to setup replication from production MariaDB (lets name proddb) to a data warehouse on Galera cluster (dw1, dw2 and dwarbitrator - last is a node with garb). Made master-slave link between proddb and dw1. And on dw1 I have actual data, but they are not updated on dw2. Other schemas successfully transfer their updates between dw1 and dw2 as required. Looks like only difference that other schemas are updated with direct requests to dw1 and dw2, and replicated schema is updated only through replication. Does anyone have experience with a similar configuration? Igor

It was working properly in MariaDB 5.1. I have upgraded to 10.1.8, and it appears that the query return is being truncated at 1024 characters. I see this behaviour in three separate tools, including php mysql calls, phpMyAdmin, and the mysql command line tool. (It was the mysql CLI, piped to wc, that told me that exactly 1024 characters were being sent, but no more.) Assuming this is not a bug, but rather some variable to be tweaked, can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance! Hi guy, I have two database server used the Replication + MHA + MaxScale . When the master(mdb1) went down ,I had select "show slave status" on slave(mdb2) , the slave database show "No query specified". So I can sure the slave database was be a master database. I had used maxscale commad "list servers" to show servers status : that show the mdb1 was down and mdb2 was runnung . But I can't connect to mysql via Maxscale, I got an error message : failed to create new session . How to use the Maxscale in two server replication ? The minimum database server node of MaxScale are 3 servers ?

Standard SQL has triggers FOR EACH STATEMENT, but MariaDB has not. I would use a stored procedure instead. Hello, Is this script supposed to be runnable as a normal (i.e., non-root) user? In MySQL 5.6 there is logic that prevents the chown() of the mysql data dir when running as non-root. MariaDB 10.1.8 doesn’t seem to have this logic, so the script fails when chown() fails. Is this change intended? We have tests that verify functionality of user-created, UNIX-socket-only MySQL/MariaDB servers. These work on MySQL 5.6 but not on MariaDB 10.1. Hello, I’ve found an apparent discrepancy between MySQL 5.6 and MariaDB 10.1. When you GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES on a DB to a user/host that is not in the mysql.users table, MariaDB 10.1 throws ER_PASSWORD_NO_MATCH, whereas MySQL 5.6 creates the user/host entry. Is this by design? I don’t see the behavior discussed at https://mariadb.com/kb/en/mariadb/grant/. Thank you for your time! If you are talking about donations to the foundation (not the company) I agree that it's a great idea. If small donations are welcome, many people will probably donate (and I'm one of them). Just a hint: maybe you could even advertise merchandising in the download page. Hi, When I try to compile maxscale, the classifier won't compile because it needs server headers. How do I tell it where to find the source. It uses multiple headers in multiple directories so adding the server source via a simple -I to CXXFLAGS doesn't work. Am I missing something? Sent from my iPhone

Hi all, I have a galera cluster of 4 MariaDB server and sometimes a node fail. But when a node fail, others nodes doesn't want to respond to query. I have in log : "MYSQL: query failed: WSREP has not yet prepared node for application use" It's really embarrassing, because it happen like once a week. Is there a parameter to modify to get this working even when split brain ? Like If 2 of the 4 server are ok, I can still make query ? [Maria-discuss] mysql_install_db.exe failing on Dutch Windows Machine(s) on some Folders

Hi, I'm trying to debug a mariadb failure on a machine in Holland. It seems mysql_install_db doesn't work for some folders, but does for others (e.g. c:\temp\db). We've typed exactly the same thing into the Dutch machine as my UK machine. On the UK machine it works fine, on the dutch machine it claims to work, but the mysql folder is empty on completion (and sunsequently the database doesn't start for obvious reasons). I've asked the guy in Holland to check folder write permissions on the parent folders created, and obviously the logged in user must be the owner as they are created with mkdir (see below): =========================================================== Dutch machine: =========================================================== Microsoft Windows [versie 6.1.7601] Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. For those who are interested in containers, I'd like to share a Docker image that we've produced in Red Hat in cooperation with OpenShift guys. And will be really glad for any feedback you have. The image can be used in OpenShift or run directly. In client/mysqldump.c, there is a command: mysql_real_escape_string(mysql, db_name_buff, db, strlen(db)); … which appears to be doubling up and backslashes in the database name when the “--routines” argument is passed to mysqldump. This bug affects MySQL 5.7.9 (and back at least to 5.1); I’ve filed a MySQL bug here: https://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=78932 -FG

[Maria-discuss] Moving from Launchpad lists to something else... ?

Hi, I was speaking to Otto (CEO, MariaDB Foundation) and discussing that we should move the lists from Launchpad to something else. We obviously want to preserve the archives, and this isn’t going to happen overnight (something like an aim by the end of the year). Would you be ok with running on Google Groups? Would you prefer being on Mailman? Do you have another self-hosted or (preferably free) hosted solution as your preference? Today, we have several lists (maria-discuss, maria-developers, maria-docs) that are hosted on Launchpad. We also have a few lists (ambassadors, announce, commits, mirroring, maria-buildbot-reports) hosted on Mailman at lists.askmonty.org. I've recently attempted to backup my tables and have been faced with a "Couldn't execute 'show events': Cannot proceed because system tables used by Event Scheduler were found damaged at server start (1577)". I've browsed the web and the "mysql_upgrade" command is regularly touted; however, this doesn't appear to be on my TS-410. I've also attempted restarting the server via the TS-410 web interface. I approached QNAP who responded they were unable to assist. Which leads me here. Has anyone encountered a similar or same scenario? And able to provide assistance in resolving? Using the socket variable in server.cnf or even in my.cnf does not appear to honor the varable. I've tried placing the variable setting in various locations in the server.cnf file, but nothing seems to work. The socket file is always created in /var/lib/mysql, or the database has problems starting up. Where else do I search for this? Could it have been compiled in by accident? If I try this with MySQL 5.6 Community version it works without issue - I placed the variable in /etc/my.cnf file under [mysqld] Again, I'm using the non enterprise version of MariaDB 10.0.21 with RHEL 6.6. Hey guys, I trying to get up running a galera cluster with IPv6 But right know, it's not working. I'm trying to join the cluster with node 2 and the rsync sst isn't listening on IPv6. Hi guys, I have a program wrote in c#, it process some code and the result is a struct (an array of string/double/int) I want to include this program inside mariadb server as a daemon plugin (to process data) + a storage engine (to read struct data) is that possible? considering that i can write dll with .net? what about write this to linux (.so files) ? any help is very very very welcome -- Roberto Spadim

Both using the BUILD/compile_solaris_spac, cmake . -DBUILD_CONFIG=mysql_release and just going through regular config script. Compiling in 32bit wasn't an issue, but I need a 64bit installation. I've set all of my flags to inclued -m64: # env | grep FLAGS CPPFLAGS=-m64 CMAKE_C_FLAGS=-m64 CXXFLAGS=-m64 CMAKE_CXX_FLAGS=-m64 CFLAGS=-m64 And my library path is correct - as far as I can tell. # echo $LD_LIBRARY_PATH /usr/lib/sparcv9:/usr/sfw/lib/sparcv9:/lib/sparcv9:/lib:/usr/lib So far I've had to manually change all of the link.txt files to add the -m64 switch. Hi I'm trying to understand why InnoDB locks two next-key intervals higher than needed. If you try to run conn-a.sql from one connection, and then run conn-b.sql from other connection, conn-b.sql would be locked. I have a feeling that it locks two next-key intervals: (5 to 7 and 7 to positive infinity). Because I can insert values higher than 7 in conn-b only if condition is WHERE n <= 4 (or lower than 4). TokuDB locks just one next-key interval (with WHERE n <= 7, TokuDB locks from -infinity to +infinity, but with condition WHERE n <= 6, it locks from -infinity to 6). Please help me to understand why ever both engines need to lock gap after the upper end of range scan. And why InnoDB needs to lock even two next-key gaps. I am trying to get some software installed but am running into problems. I have created a database and user for that database, but when I run the software it cannot connect to the database. The user I created was on the database sam I used the command MySQL -u sam -p'sam's password' sam's database I get access denied for user 'sam'@'localhost' I used the command "grant all privileges on newdb.* to sam@localhost;" I also did a "grant usage on *.* to sam@localhost identified by 'sams password'; Is there something I am doing wrong? The nodes are all SUSE (SLES) 12. I have copied the mysqld_multi script form /usr/bin to /etc/init.d to enable the startup and shutdown of all the databases when the system starts and stops. Problem I'm having is that if I use mysqld_mult stop/start (to stop/start them all) only one or two will actually stop/start the rest just won't work. But I f I start/stop them one at a time with a few seconds delay between commands it works just fine. So what I'm looking to do is to modify the mysqld_multi script to add a 5 sec delay in between each instances start/stop. Just not where the best place in the script to do this. Hello all, I am running MariaDB 10.1.5 with Sysbench 0.5 (lua) against an IBM Blade (Haswell) using Hitachi 15K SAS Hdd's. Operating system is RHEL 7. Hyperthreading is turned off. System memory is 48GB. Up to now, I have ran extensive Sysbench tests against MariaDB using RAM as the datastore with no appreciable problems. Now I have switched the datastore to normal disk (see above) and am seeing the Sysbench R/W TPS rate take a hit after approximately 3 minutes (180 seconds) into the run (runtime is 600 seconds) and every three minutes thereafter. I am seeing nothing in the MariaDB logs (error and Slow queries), nor in Linux itself, nor is Sysbench telling me anything (I have debug rurned on and verbosity set to 5).
