Hi, I need to find out the function(s) which generate the value of VIRTUAL/PERSISTENT column. According to documentation here- https://mariadb.com/kb/en/mariadb/documentation/sql-commands/data-definitio… I have to use *SHOW CREATE TABLE.. *to get the definition. It is doable of course but It involves painful parsing of returned create table statement to get the required function(s)( As I want to display them in GUI client.) This function(s) is not returned in *show full fields from... *and I can't find any relevant information in INFORMATION_SCHEMA also. So my question is- Is there any better way of getting this information other than using SHOW CREATE TABLE.. and do parsing? or is it the only way of accomplishing it? Regards, Abhishek.

[Maria-discuss] 5.5.x vs 10.x

So, thinking of building a totally new server from scratch on a new vmWare host for playing around, and was curious of the differences. Is 5.5 still being maintained just because it is the last major stable version before 10.x? But then isn't 10.x the way forward? Is 10.x still considered a drop-in replacement for MySQL? [Maria-discuss] mariadb galera and storage engines

Hi! Galera claims that it only supports InnoDB tables (and MyISAM, experimentally). What about storage engines that add functionalities upon another table? For example, can I have a Mroonga or OQGRAPH or CONNECT/PROXY table built over an InnoDB table? As far as I understand this should be supported, since InnoDB will handle transactions. But did anyone test this? Regards Federico

[Maria-discuss] MariaDB OpenSuSE repo does not resolve all conflicts if KDE programs are installed.

I have written about this in another thread. But let us take it from scratch. The other thread is messy. The problem is KDE and certain KDE programs. Quite a lot of those have an option to store data in MySQL (embedded or not) and they install dependent libraries in order to do so. Do this to reproduce and understand the problem: 1) Install OpenSUSE with a GUI. I used xfce desktop, but it should be the same with any destop not based on KDE (with KDE and KDE-derivates, it could be more complicated) 2) During install also install the "LAMP Server". Probably just installing MariaDB 10.10.14 from SuSE's repos later will also do. 3) Now install Amarok (for instance). Inspect dependencies being installed - including two MySQL-related libraries. I used the GUI for install but probably zypper has a --verbose option listing dependencies. See dependencies.jpg. 4) Register MariaDB's repo for SuSE '. See repos.jpg 5) Open "Software management" and search for MariaDB . See packages.jpg 6) MariaDB's RPMs do not resolve dependencies on libraries installed with Amarok (see conflict.jpg). 7) But you can do manually - if using the GUI at least (as in conflicts_resolved.jpg). Now everything installs and works fine after install. If you don't do it right first time (later is too late!) you will encounter issues. For instance I was only able to use command line clients as root. This is reproducible exactly the same way with OpenSuSE 12.3 GA as well as the 'bleeding edge' "OpenSuSE factory". Should not those dependencies be resolved automatically? -- Peter -- Webyog

Hi. In MySQL 5.7 documentation: https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.7/en/innodb-parameters.html I read: "As of MySQL 5.7.5, the InnoDB storage engine can no longer be disabled, and the --innodb=OFF and --skip-innodb options are deprecated and have no effect. Their use results in a warning. These options will be removed in a future MySQL release." Will MariaDB remove --skip-innodb? If so, when? Regards Federico
