[Maria-discuss] problems with innodb

Hi guys, I am building MariaDB from source and it doesn't come with innodb. I have tried the parameters: all and innobase. Is there anything else I can pass on command line to get innodb running at my MariaDB? Many thanks, Alex

All, I'm sending this to both Maria Developers and Maria Discuss to make sure it gets to everyone, sorry for any duplicates. Just a heads up for everyone: I will be moving the askmonty.org website from its current home to a new server this Thursday, 25 Feb. If all goes according to plan, the website will remain up during the move but will be read-only during the actual switch. askmonty.org is the only domain/website that will be impacted by this move, websites on any other domain (such as buildbot.askmonty.org) are not part of this move and will continue to function normally. I will send a notice out on Thursday when I start the process, and a final one once the move is complete and I've tested that things are working properly. I've read that MariaDB 5.2 will support virtual columns and I've read the virtual columns' specifications: http://forge.mysql.com/wiki/MySQL_virtual_columns_ref_manual I think there is a problem in that document. In CREATE TABLE and in ALTER TABLE commands you can create a virtual column. The syntax allows to specify that the column is STORED, if you wish. But it does not allow to specify that it's NOT STORED. This causes a little problem: one can not switch a STORED column to NOT STORED - one must to DROP and re-ADD the column. Also, I have a question: will virtual columns be able to use UDF's? Cheers, Federico

All, This is an FYI for everyone that uses our buildbot web interface: Due to an upcoming server move I am in the process of moving our buildbot web interface from http://askmonty.org/buildbot to http://buildbot.askmonty.org/buildbot Both of the above currently work (and point at the same data), but as of Friday 5 Feb 2010 at approx 09:00 US Eastern time, http://askmonty.org/buildbot will turn into a redirect. The redirect will handle all of your old bookmarks (i.e. they should still work), but I thought I should at least let everyone know so that you aren't surprised by the move. I've already updated all of the links I could find on the askmonty.org wiki. And if you are wondering why I kept the /buildbot subdirectory in place on the new subdomain, well, it was easier and safer to keep it in place, so I did. [Maria-discuss] Replication and auto-increment

I was reading over the replication discussion on maria-developers I thought I'd share some thoughts that are not so technical as I do not understand the back end that well. Our system is currently a master-master WAN replication setup, each writing to a different DB with an offline process to do copies. Our databases extensively uses auto-increments on tables (more than necessary, but that's another story). Would future developments allow synchronous replication to occur on a single database when the WAN link has a single point of failure(SPoF)? How might an auto-increment system handle such a failure? This SPoF is our network link that can be a transient problem out of our control. Both sides may need to keep inserting data during this transient issue. This is usually not an issue 99% of the time, but it's better to prepare for downtime than trying to fix data errors in that 1%.

[Maria-discuss] Binding to network addresses

I am not sure whether this has been discussed. MySQL either binds to all network interfaces/addresses or to only single specified network address. Wouldn't this limitation be nice to have fixed in MariaDB, say I want to bind to 127.0.0.1 and a VIP network address, maybe management network address, but not to all network addresses on a server?

I have compiled and installed mariadb-5.1.39 on Mac OS X 10.6.2 and installed a 64-bit binary on CentOS 5. In both cases, MyISAM is still the default database engine. I would have expected it to be Maria. Did I miss something? Thanks, Richard
