Hi, I was speaking to Hartmut a few days ago and he mentioned that he really did like the idea of postgresql’s /contrib feature. From postgresql/contrib: This subtree contains porting tools, analysis utilities, and plug-in features that are not part of the core PostgreSQL system, mainly because they address a limited audience or are too experimental to be part of the main source tree. This does not preclude their usefulness. (https://github.com/postgres/postgres/tree/master/contrib) Should we consider doing this for MariaDB Server? Have more tools that people might benefit from, but not spend much time on it? [Maria-discuss] Monitoring InnoDB tables?

Hi list, I'm developing a fast data synchronization tool and need to monitor some tables in a customer's MariaDB (10.1) server for changes. I only have access to the server as a MariaDB client (no filesystem access). Ideally, I would keep a connection open and poll every few seconds - AFAIK, it's not possible for e.g. a stored procedure to notify a listener external to MariaDB. The tables have no 'timestamp' or other columns I can do MAX() on to check for updates. The database is used as a backend for some proprietary software, so I can't just ask the customer to add an autoincrement column. With MyISAM, I could look at UPDATE_TIME in information_schema.tables (and live with the full-second resolution) or ask the customer to "alter table t1 checksum=1;" so I can use "checksum table t1 quick;". None of these work with InnoDB, and "checksum table t1;" is too slow for large tables. I've seen suggestions to use NUM_ROWS and MODIFIED_COUNTER in information_schema.innodb_sys_tablestats, but it's unreliable for me in a number of cases, e.g. if the number of rows is the same but contents are different. I would really appreciate. I believe that some great tools exist but are not used because are not in a default MariaDB/MySQL installation. A contrib directory could advertise good tools and encourage people to try them. I have Oracle background. I m trying to download and install the Mariadb software binaries as well as setup the database in our development environment. OS is RHEL 6.5 and I tried to use yum to install but got error message. I also obtain the tar.zip file and uncompressed the file on the linux server but most of the files are zero bytes.. Questions: a) What binaries do I need to download for Mariadb installation? b) What OS username and group id etc..would I be installing Mariadb as? c) Where do I get Mariadb files to download since I m having issue with yum..
