Our ultimate goal is to have encrypted data-at-rest. I have 2 questions please. 1) So from my research I see I should be able to install mariadb 10.0 and run mysql_upgrade. Since the database exists already, do you just specify the location of the database when you install and it will upgrade it to mysqldb 10.0 when I run mysql_upgrade? 2) To achieve encryption, do I just install 10.1.4 on the same machine and run mysql_upgrade after making the changes to my.cnf. I know there are other my.cnf options but will this encrypt all the tables and logs? Does it do system tables please? [mysqld] plugin-load-add=file_key_management.so file-key-management file-key-management-filename = /mount/usb1/keys.txt innodb-encrypt-tables innodb-encrypt-log innodb-encryption-threads=4 I have just started to research so I appreciate the help. I use the 1.0.5 version of MariaDB ODBC connector and the 10.1.1 version of MariaDB (I don’t want to use a MySQL ODBC connector). If I try only with a SELECT * it works but from the moment I use the ORDER BY Access freezes for a while and then stops running. The UPDATE queries work fine. I am researching porting to mariadb. Our primary servers function in a master-master configuration, with real-time updates when changes are made on either server. I see docs describing master-slave and some posts about master-master. Do I have to install the galera cluster to maintain this master-master setup please or can I just install mariadb on each server and set the my.cnf files as I currently have them with different server-IDs please? I love the speed and compactness of Aria (InnoDB tables are relatively huge), and I love that its crash-safe. I don't want to ever lose that crash-safe-ness, but I really don't care if my database goes back in time, and I lose data.
