Hello.
I appreciate so much your new Knowledge Base. The pages that are already on line are very clear and complete, as the MySQL docs. But, unlike the MySQL docs, the Knowledge Base has free licenses. For these reasons, I would like to translate into italian - which is my natural language.
Am I allowed to do that? As far as I understand, both the licenses used (CC BY-SA and GNU FDL) allow translations, as long as they have the same licenses used by the original work. But I want to be sure before starting.
I can't translate all the articles, so I'll only translate some of the most interesting documents. But, as the documentation grows, maybe I may try to set up a group of volounteers. We'll see.
You are absolutely allowed to do that. You can translate it to Italian with no issue at all
Currently (and I think, by design) it seems that kb.askmonty.org will be in the English language. Bryan (CC'ed in this email) is the right person to help setup an instance for the Italian language (something like it.kb.askmonty.org) if you were planning on making a larger translation project. It would be great if you could harness a group of volunteers
We actually want to setup a structure to support translations inside our KB, I just haven't had the time to design or implement it. My two concerns are how to properly display content in another language and how to keep translated articles up to date when the English version is updated (or vice versa). If you have any ideas, please let me know.
In the meantime however, as you'd like to just translate interesting documents, just go ahead, translate them, and it would rock if you'd point folk to the English version at the askmonty KB
Good luck with your translation work and tell us if you need any help!
Yes please let us know if there is anything we can do to help. I will try to work on supporting other languages soon since people are actually translating articles. Best Regards, -- Bryan Alsdorf, Lead Web Developer Monty Program AB. http://montyprogram.com

My suggestion to make it easier to keep the documents up to date is: to implement (if it does not already exist) a tool like Wikipedia. In Wikipedia you can see all old versions of every page. Then, there's a tool which compares the versions and shows what has been added / deleted / modified in the newest version. This way, translators should only add a note in the translated document like "Original document's version: 1111". I hope my suggestion will be of some use. try to work on supporting other languages soon since people are actually translating articles. Thanks! I'll start the translation in the next few days and I'll let you know as soon as I have something. Federico
Hello. I have been busy, but I translated some pages and published them on a new wiki: http://mariadb.pbworks.com/ The home page says that * the wiki collects some italian unofficial translations from the askmonty.org kb; * anyone who wants collaborate with the translations can email me; * every translation has a link to the original version, which says what's the license; * if a page is not a translation, and has no legal note, it's licensed cc by-nc-sa 3 All the links in the section "Articoli" are translations. Of course, if askmonty.org is interested in hosting the italian translations, I'll be glad to delete the wiki and publish all the translations on askmonty. Federico

Hi! I'm currently trying to change my tables from MyISAM to Maria. (MariaDB 5.1.49). Since I'm working with MySQL Workbench I'm trying to synchronize this models. When I do that, Workbench seems not to realize that there are any tables on the other end. But I can access the tables just to edit the table data (even in workbench).I even changed the xml files "mysql_engines.xml" with the settings below...I'm using the newest GA of Workbench (5.2.29). Ideas anyone? Cheers!David <value type="object" struct-name="db.mysql.StorageEngine" id="com.mysql.engine.3rdparty.maria"> <value type="string" key="caption"></value> <value type="string" key="comment"></value> <value type="string" key="description"></value> <value type="string" key="name">Maria</value> <value type="string" key="oldName"></value> <value type="list" content-type="object" content-struct-name="db.mysql.StorageEngineOption" key="options"/> <value type="int" key="supportsForeignKeys">0</value> </value>
