I cannot stress it enough but re-read the docs thoroughly before doing anything :-)
In my case it means creating a buildroot package for xtrabackup, which is definitely on my TODO list, but wasn't scheduled just now :)
Since SST fails both with rsync and mysqldump (even when I set credentials properly, or think I do), I think I should fix that before trying to switch to another method. I think this mariadb problem is hiding a more fundamental communication problem between my buildroot boxes. I'll let you know.
