[Maria-discuss] More contributors welcome to MariaDB packaging in Debian
Hello! Do you want to improve MariaDB in Debian? Do you want to contribute to Debian packaging using modern git-buildpackage tools and state of the art QA tools? Do you want to see the result of your work in the hands of numerous of Linux users who run Debian and MariaDB? I am happy to mentor anybody who want's to start contributing to Debian packaging of MariaDB. I have created some items with priority "wishlist" and title prepended with "TODO" visible at https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?src=mariadb-10.0#_0_6_4 These are all farily easy tasks that anybody interested in contributing could pick up and and start working on. If you want to contribute, please subscribe to the packaging teams list and show your interest there / ask questions to get directions and more help: http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/pkg-mysql-maint/ I promise to quickly review and respond to questions so that contributors feel welcomed! - Otto
Hi, I would like to know more about the packaging project-it's current state and what exactly remains to be done. I was looking at the previous year's ideas page and there was no mention of the difficulty of the project. Could I know which projects would be good for someone with intermediate programming skills? Additionally, I am looking to participate in this year's GSoC program. So, would MariaDB be applying? Thanks, Rohit. On Wed, Dec 30, 2015 at 7:29 PM, Otto Kekäläinen <otto@seravo.fi> wrote:

Yes, we would be applying (when the time is right). We have participated in 2013, 2014, and 2015, so look forward to 2016. You will note that the date we can apply is: 8 February, 2016 19:00 UTC In case you’re wondering, here is a good timeline: https://developers.google.com/open-source/gsoc/timeline?hl=en -- Colin Charles, http://bytebot.net/blog/ twitter: @bytebot | skype: colincharles "First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win." -- Mohandas Gandhi

Hi,
I would like to know more about the packaging project-it's current state and what exactly remains to be done.
I was looking at the previous year's ideas page and there was no mention of the difficulty of the project. Could I know which projects would be good for someone with intermediate programming skills?

Colin already answered this well. GSoC is right now not active. If you have some minor contributions before the GSoC applications open, you'll have a better chance of getting chosen, so I recommend browsing the issue trackers and take on something that looks easy and you feel comfortable to start with.
From the Debian issues, I think this would be a good one to start with: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=809022
If you are more interested in programming (and less about packaging and systems engineering) take a look at the links Colin sent about MaraiDB tasks.
Hello! Thanks to Rafa Hernandez for fixing the debtags for the package mariadb-10.0 in Debian! I'll be in FOSDEM next weekend and I am happy to introduce anybody interested into the world of Debian packaging and general Linux distro QA work. 2015-12-30 15:59 GMT+02:00 Otto Kekäläinen <otto@seravo.fi>:
