[Maria-discuss] stored procedures external languages
Hi all
I remember these slides and this worklog about supporting external languages for stored procedures:
* http://www.slideshare.net/AntonyTCurtis/external-stored-proceduresformysql20... * http://www.slideshare.net/AntonyTCurtis/a-tour-of-external-language-stored-p... * https://dev.mysql.com/worklog/task/?id=820
As far as I can guess from the slides, there has been some active work on this idea, and some working code. I hoped so badly that I could see this in 5.x, and then in10.0, and then in 10.1. Is there any chance to see this feature in a future release, or should I just stop waiting?
Please, consider all the benefits that would come from this: using a "real" language, using existing libraries, getting rid of almost all current stored procedures limitations...
Regards Federico
Someone told me that MariaDB people expressed an interest in including this in a future release during a recent conference...

It has been talked about but .. I am not in a mood to do the porting work again, unless there is commitment to actually accept patches.
I discussed it with Monty at around the time of Percona Live in Santa Clara earlier this year and there was rumor of even sponsorship for the work but I have not heard anything else, since then.
Regards, Antony.

Sad, but I understand. Is your patch public? Is it stable? How difficult would it be to maintain it?

The project is very interesting. I had a lot of problems while compiling it on a Debian machine (I had 5.* installed from tarball). Including that UDF by default would be a great idea. But a UDF is not a stored procedure, so I don't consider it as a replacement for external languages support.
