Thank-you so much for pointing out my error.. The penny dropped and my repo mirror was for all distros instead of only for Centos/RHEL.

My .repo file pointed to the wtong place being,
baseurl = http://install/installation/yum.mariadb.org
when maybe I should have written,
baseurl = http://yum.mariadb.org/10.0/centos6-amd64

If I'd read the error fully, instead of skim-reading, I would have seen this. I'd rewrite my yum.mariadb.org.repo file.
