Nice, and there's even an option to force the durability inside innodb despite --sync-binlog=0. I might even have written that page back then and just forgotten ;-) (the history link in the KB doesn't work for me for some reason).
The TL;DR seems to be that, for each group of transactions, one less commit happens but this won't decrease durability as long as the sync_binlog=1.
