[Maria-discuss] Question about MariaDB Non-blocking Client

Greetings, I'm using the MariaDB Non-blocking API to write a C++ client, but I've hit a wall regarding connection checking. I've been referencing the binding from node-mariasql ( https://github.com/mscdex/node-mariasql/blob/master/src/binding.cc) My app parses a config and creates new objects for each query, where each object has a MYSQL struct and MYSQL *pointer. Then, for each I set state to STATE_CONNECT and call doWork(). This works fine, when I can connect right away. The problem I'm experiencing is if I have a connection and kill the server (/etc/init.d/mysql stop) and then start it back (/etc/init.d/mysql start), I can never get clean reconnects. It's usually a mixture of errcode 2058, 2003, 2013. I'm really confused how to gracefully manage connections. Before I was using the official MySQL C++ connector, and it provides a connection->isConnected() method. I'm wondering how I can get something similar with MariaDB's client, as I need the non-blocking interface. Given: MYSQL mysql, *mysqlHandle; Look at the mysql_real_connect_start() or cont() functions. I provide MYSQL struct and on connect I get a copy of the struct stored in *mysqlHandle. It's not clear to me what the purpose of the copy is at this point as I still use the initial struct to call query(). In the case that I can detect a disconnection, how do I properly clean up the connection and attempt reconnect? Do I mysql_close(&mysql) and/or mysql_close(mysqlHandle), shutdown/close the file descriptor, mysql_init() a new handle and go through mysql_real_connect_start/cont()? Does it even make sense for each object to have its own MYSQL struct that I mysql_init(), or would it be better to have layer on top that mysql_init()s a single MYSQL struct, connects, and passes the returned *mysqlHandle to each query? [Maria-discuss] MariaDB-Galera plans?

Hello, There have been no MariaDB-Galera releases since March and I am curious if you still plan to support it going forward. It feels that MariaDB-Galera development stopped completely and I wonder if I should be switching to Percona instead. Best, Aleksey

I have a table of transactions for ArticleID bought and sold. I want to create a report of the fileds in that table sorted by the SUM of each ArticleID. Any suggestions??? Is it possible to set up replication in such a manner as to permit writing records to either a master or a slave replica? We want to set up a fail safe replica that can easily take over when our connection to the main replica fails, which, unfortunately, is fairly often. I read a document, some time ago which mentioned several types of replication, i.e.: by record, by table ... and the pitfalls, like IDs not necessarily matching... which confused me more than anything else... [Maria-discuss] New Question: Multi-threading and Statement.cancel()

Hello, A new question has been asked in "MariaDB Java Client" by rstepanski: -------------------------------- Attempting to execute queries on multiple threads (10 to 20) with the ability to cancel each Thread's unique Statement mid execution from a separate thread. However, when sharing a single Connection among all threads for their Statement creation, a cancel() on one Statement will cause other thread's executeQuery() to throw a "Query execution was interrupted". Switching to per thread Connections and a thread pool, the cancel() will sometimes fail with "Unknown thread id: xx". I'm assuming this occurs when a thread previously used to work with another connection attempts to cancel() another. This had worked previously with MySql jdbc (and still does with MySql jdbc + MariaDb server). The queries themselves are single table, limited/offset, selects. Where clauses would generally be related: query 1: like 'a%' query 2: like 'ab%' query 3: like 'abc%' With each previous query being cancelled when a more specific query was available. Hello! few days ago we realized we got cached by the bug MDEV-4754 [1] . Today mariadb 5.5.32 has been released but among the notable Information the mysql bug #69623 [2] is mentioned in case you have the table using the Innodb engine. per our information: | innodb_data_file_path | ibdata1:100M:autoextend | | innodb_data_home_dir | /var/lib/mysql/innodb | | innodb_file_per_table | ON | | innodb_version | 5.5.31-MariaDB-30.2 | I think we fit exactly in that scenario but I need some help to confirm this and be sure can *upgrade* without issues or that we should wait for another release that fix this.
