[Maria-developers] GSoC 2016 Maxscale Filter
Hi everyone, My name is Lisa Brinson and I am a junior Computer science student at Oregon State University. I wish to participate in an open source project through GSoC 2016. I am proficient in C and C++ as well as git. I have looked through the proposed projects and I have developed interest in the Maxscale tasks especially the filters. I have been going through the filter API and have also looked at some sample filters in server/modules/filter directory. I will try to write my first filter(a hello world filter) to get familiar with the API. I will be submitting 3 proposals for the 3 Maxscale filters hoping one will be selected. Best regards, Lisa.
Hi, Great to hear you're interested in MaxScale. You might also want to introduce yourself on the MaxScale mailing list over at Google Groups. The filters are a good place to start from, they are quite easy to understand while still allowing a lot of room for experimentation. I'm looking forward to hearing more from all the people who are interested in GSoC 2016 and MaxScale. Markus On 05/03/16 11:46, Lisa Brinson wrote:

Hi Markus, Thanks for the kind response. I have forwarded this intro to the Maxscale Google group. Concerning the MSSQL to MariaDB filter, Is there an existing API that can be called in our filter to do the conversion or are we coding the regex manually in the filter? I found an online tool at http://www.sqlines.com/online. It's not accurate though. Please check it out to see if it's the same thing we are trying to achieve with our filter. Thanks. Lisa. Hi Markus, I am having issues building Maxscale on OS X as it seems to lack libaio. I had encountered this same problem in building another software on OS X and there was no fix available. I wish to know if there is a fix for this problem or Maxscale does not build on OS X. I have setup a virtual machine running Scientific Linux 7 and the build is successful but my working environment is not that great as I have to setup different MariaDB instances on the VM and on OS X. Please what is the best option? Thanks, Lisa.
Hi, Currently MaxScale only works on 64-bit Linux. We recommend one of the more common distributions like CentOS, Ubuntu or Debian. There are a couple of blog posts that I wrote a while ago about building MaxScale, maybe they can be of help: https://mariadb.com/blog/building-maxscale-source-centos-7 https://mariadb.com/blog/building-maxscale-source-ubuntu-1404 Markus On 08/03/16 22:04, Lisa Brinson wrote:
