Hi Sergei,
The reason I'm writing you is because I'm interested in details about this gsoc2013 proposal, and I saw you were supposed to be the mentor.
Is it open for contributing apart from gsoc?
Yes, it is. But please, write to maria-developers@lists.launchpad.net next time, not to me personally. Regards, Sergei
Hi Sergei, Sorry for that. My name is Ilija and I am a undergraduate student of computer science. I find this project interesting and I'd like to know a bit more about it, so I could decide whether it is appropriate for me, or not. Are there any other desirable skills beside C and knowledge of LDAP, because I have read about comparing to PAM authentication modules for GSOC proposal? Do I still have to write a proposal, or some kind of plan for contributing to the project? Sorry for all these questions, but this is my first time trying to contribute to open source project. no, C and LDAP knowledge. But this point about comparing is important, if we have a new authentication plugin, we should be able to explain to our users why we have two similar solutions, and when they should use PAM+pam_ldap.so and when a dedicated LDAP plugin. I'm sure there can be benefits of the dedicated LDAP plugin, but we should know clearly what they are. For example, it may be more flexible, support user groups in LDAP, work on Windows, whatever. I can help you writing the LDAP plugin even if you won't answer this question. But then we won't accept it as a contribution, as we cannot distribute something that has no value to the users.
Do I still have to write a proposal, or some kind of plan for contributing to the project?
Not really. As you like.
Sorry for all these questions, but this is my first time trying to contribute to open source project.
You're very welcome to! Don't hesitate to ask, if you have any questions. Regards, Sergei
