Do you still want to push your patch? The patch looks fine (you can take this as review), it handles a couple things I forgot in my own patch.
Since I did not hear back from you, I'll go ahead and push your patch - I'll fix it in 5.5 and up. (I'll fix it in the mariadb server source tree only - not in mariadb-connector-c (CONC-153), hopefully you or someone else can handle pushing a patch for that). - Kristian.
