This reverts commit 29bbcac0ee841faaa68eeb09c86ff825eabbe6b6.

This was incorrectly reverted. 29bbcac0ee841faaa68eeb09c86ff825eabbe6b6 didn't apply to 10.3 verbatim, there were some merge related changes.
