Hi Guys, I want to copy the contents of the IO_CACHE into a string. But I'm not found a function can do it, but I found "my_b_copy_to_file" can do the similar thing, so I implement a function "my_b_copy_to_string" by imitating "my_b_copy_to_file", to do this thing. Well, these are different but related concepts. @@gtid_domain_id is a system variable. A "domain id" is a conceptual thing when taking about global transaction ID. It is like the InnoDB buffer pool. The system variable is "innodb_buffer_pool_size". The concept is "buffer pool size". But I agree the concept should be "domain ID", not domain_id (with an underscore). The reason I spell this out is not to nitpick, but rather that I would welcome suggestions for naming, I am terrible with naming. Do you think I should rename @@gtid_domain_id and @@gtid_seq_no to just @@domain_id and @@seq_no? I thought that was perhaps a bit too generic names, though I did keep plain @@server_id for backwards compatibility. Another option is @@binlog_domain_id and @@binlog_seq_no, this is perhaps better than the random "gtid" prefix? I'll ask Let me give an example. Suppose server 1 is master. It binlogs an event with GTID 0-1-10. This event is currently the last in the binlog. Server 2 is a slave of server 1. When it catches up, GTID 0-1-10 is the last event applied on the slave. So now, what should be the replication state of slave server 2? If we want to use "start from" we could try GTID 0-1-11? But then suppose we now switch master to a new server 3. Then the event following 0-1-10 is 0-2-11, not 0-1-11. So if server 2 would try to connect as a slave to server 3 and start from 0-1-11, it will not work, this event does not exist anywhere. That is why it has to be "start after", as when we save the state on the slave, we know only the GTID of the last event applied, not the one to apply next. > There might be more in there for me to look into.. There are two ways a slave can connect. The old way using binlog file and position. And the new way using GTID. I think we need to have both. The Using_Gtid records which of the two is used. I made it this way so that users do not need to set some specific option in my.cnf, and so that with multi-source, one slave connection can use the old style (eg. master not supporting GTID?), while another can use new style. The main difference is finding the starting position. But this also implies difference for how the slave replicates. Because with GTID there can be *multiple* starting positions (one for each domain id). Hello all, I am investigating what our storage engine, TokuDB, needs to do to achieve its best performance in MariaDB 5.5 with respect to preparing and committing transactions, and with respect to binary logging. As I understand, group commit has been added to the binary log in Maria 5.3, and is also in MariaDB 5.5. Additionally, new APIs prepare_ordered and commit_ordered are added. I am trying to understand how these fit together. >From reading http://kristiannielsen.livejournal.com/12408.html and comments in handler.h, here is what I THINK I know: - In MariaDB 5.5, we must fsync our recovery log on handlerton->prepare and handlerton->commit - If we want to ensure that the order we commit transactions is the same order that they appear committed in the binary log, then we should perform our commit in two phases, commit_ordered and commit, where commit_ordered is serialized under a global mutex that ensures the correct order - InnoDB must do this for hot backup to work Here is my big question: given TokuDB is not designed to work with InnoDB's hot backup solution, is there ANY reason why we should care about the commit order of our transactions? Are there any performance reasons related to group commit? >From everything I read, I think the answer is no, but I would appreciate confirmation. I think there are no performance gains to be made by implementing commit_ordered, and given we fsync on commit, there should be no issues with syncing our engine up with the binary log after a crash. Also, I assume the fsync after commit is necessary. Only in 10.0 will some new functionality be available that allows us to not fsync on commit. Is my understanding correct? Thanks -Zardosht

Hi guys, As I work through the Coverity Scan results of MariaDB's trunk, I find myself having to research what some functions do, and the meanings of their parameters and return values. Rather than just recording what I learn on a piece of paper, I thought it might be nice to write Doxygen comments for some of those functions / structs / etc. That way, perhaps other persons trying to learn the code base could benefit. Here's the problem. Based on Monty's blog posting about MariaDB 10 vs. MySQL 5.6 ( http://blog.mariadb.org/mariadb-10-0-and-mysql-5-6/ ), it's not obvious to me which files / functions / etc. in MariaDB have been forked from MariaDB, vs. which ones will be replaced with the corresponding MySQL code when the next MySQL release comes out. This means that when I write Doxygen comments for a given file / function /struct / etc., I don't know whether to submit that comment patch to the MariaDB project or to the MySQL project. Does anyone know I I can figure that out? Thanks, Christian

I am little confused about binlog event of COMMIT statement, In most of time, a COMMIT statement corresponds a XID_event in the binlog, but sometimes is a Query_event. how that happened ? or can I do any operations to make a COMMIT statement correspond a Query_event certainly in the binlog.
