They create an impression that Visual Studio has run-time checks for an iterator running out of range. And that our code fails this check (because the iterator runs out of range). And that your "fix" is to disable the check instead of fixing the buggy out-of-range iterator. I'm not saying that's what happens, I'm saying that your comment suggests that this happens, because you didn't describe what was the actual bug. A better comment should say that our iterator is correct, but a buggy check erroneously marks it as out-of-range. It should explain what iterator is it, exactly, why it's correct, etc. Could you please fix the comment please? Do you have some better suggestion ? > Yes, I assumed so, but the current implementation is lazy and user-hostile. And, to me, having a single global variable controlling "the" encryption algorithm (for what, exactly?) is weird. Presumably if it makes sense to have it changeable, it also makes sense to set different algorithms for different objects. At a minimum, IMHO: store the encryption_algorithm selection with each encrypted object so that data can be migrated in the future. Then, implement sufficient support in the various necessary places so that it can be safely changed. Currently as far as I can tell it is globally set once, and impossible to change in the future. This could be done via stealing some bits from either the stored encryption scheme (1 byte) or key version (4 bytes) or adding a new encryption algorithm field which is stored alongside those everywhere (this is probably the best strategy IMHO, but takes a bit of thought). Alternatively as an absolute (and even lower) minimum: ensure that changing it once the database is initialized produces a loud and very clear error message to the user. Regards, Jeremy

I would like to propose my participation for Port InnoDB Memcache Interface to MariaDB (https://mariadb.atlassian.net/browse/MDEV-4674) as GSOC 2015 Student. Although I have been continuously involved with discussion regarding the project with the assigned mentor (Colin Charles), but would also like to propose my raw architecture for community participation , thus I would like to *request* you all to please go through the given architecture and follow up with your comments and remarks.Since the feature is critical to MariaDB, thus I will work hard on your comments and remarks to make this project a success. Architecture: According to my understanding this is the working that should be done for the project : Following are the main advantages which will come after integrating memcache to XtraDB (MariaDB Engine): - This memcache interfacing with MaraDB would help in faster execution of query in MaraDB Server. - Data can be unstructured or structured, depending on the type of application. You can make an all-new table for the data, or map the NoSQL-style processing to one or more existing tables. - Data that is requested through the memcached protocol is transparently queried from an XtraDB table, without going through the MariaDB SQL layer. - Because memcached consumes relatively little CPU, and its memory footprint is easy to control, it can run comfortably alongside a MariaDB instance on the same system. - Because memcached consumes relatively little CPU, and its memory footprint will be easy to control, it would run comfortably alongside a MariaDB instance on the same system. [Maria-developers] MDEV-6714: A couple of questions

Hi Sergei, I've achieved the desired performance speedup related to MDEV-6714. You can check the preliminary patch on the commits mailing-list. I'll clean up the code and then submit a final version for review. I do however have two concerns: * By using SHOW TABLES LIKE %s, we performed a case insensitive search to find the table's correct name case. This command takes a long time with a lot of tables. Using an equality operator in I_D speeds it up, but it no longer matches if we have a different case. Possible solution: Try to search for the table with the provided string via INFORMATION_SCHEMA using the equals operator. If we can not find the table, fall back to a case insensitive search that takes longer. * The I_S.triggers and I_S.tables are available since 5.5 and 5.1 respectively. I suppose it is safe to assume we will have these tables available when running mysqldump. I can code all the changes to fall back to the previous query if the one that uses I_S tables fails.
