Hi Sergei, Alexander and all, Thank you for accepting my proposal. This was the first time I applied for GSoC, so I was kind of nervous. I was selected to work on the project *"CREATE OR REPLACE, CREATE IF NOT EXISTS and DROP IF EXISTS" *as part of GSoC'14. My end semester exams are going on right now. I will be done with my exams and projects by 29th April. I am totally excited to get started. I have built the source code already. Have learnt a few things about the source code as you must have observed in my proposal. I will continue with the documentation and source code from 1st May. Is there anything else you want me to look into? Thanks, Sriram

[Maria-developers] TokuDB disabled in Debian and Ubuntu - help me get it working?

Hello Rick, Last year I spent a lot of time packaging MariaDB 5.5 for Debian and finally this year it has landed in Ubuntu 14.04 and Debian testing. Unfortunately the Debian/Ubuntu version does not include TokuDB and I need your help to get it there. In 5.5.35 (I think) the TokuDB plugn was added to MariaDB but I had issues getting it build 100% correctly and I eventually dropped it (added build parameter -DWITHOUT_TOKUDB=true), as getting MariaDB in Debian at all was a bigger priority than getting it there with every possible plugin. The root cause seems to be that when Debian and Ubuntu packages are built in chroot environments (the build systems of Debian and Ubuntu use pbuilder/sbuilder systems, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debian_build_toolchain#Isolated_build_environ…) the code that builds the plugin does not seem to correctly detect the CPU features. It seems to read the values from the build machine and not the inputted target values (in a cross-compile situation). There are two related issues that needs a solution: 1) Currenlty the code that checks what the architecture is (32-bit/64-bit) is the first lines of https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~maria-captains/maria/10.0/view/head:/storage/…. This works well for real and virtual machhines, but it does not seem to work in the pbuilder/sbuilder chroots, as CMAKE_SYSTEM_PROCESSOR always shows the chroot host CPU, not the cross-compile target CPU. Could you please investigate pbuilder/sbuilder and search for some solution that works for reliable target CPU checking? 2) When building TokuDB in Ubuntu (amd64) sbuilder environments something in crashes in the 'toku_os_get_processor_frequency' function. For this too, could you investigate the sbuilde chroot environment and figure out what goes on and how to fix it? Issue 2 has a bug report with the (a bit messy) debugging history documented: https://mariadb.atlassian.net/browse/MDEV-5618 Both of these issues requires learning a bit about sbuilder CPU things, so I assume it is most efficient if the same persons looks into both of these. Three other community supported alternatives of MySQL are also included: * MariaDB 5.5 - a drop in replacement for MySQL 5.5. * Percona XtraDB Cluster 5.5 - a Galera based Active/Active MySQL solution. * MySQL 5.6 - the next release of Oracle's MySQL. Note that upgrading to MySQL 5.6 is an automatic one way process; it is possible to downgrade manually - see the upstream documentation on details of how to perform this process." Attached is the preprocessed table that I used two years ago. It lists test failures in buildbot in a given period of time. Columns are (as far as I remember): * time of the test run start * code branch that was tested * revision id that was tested - it's fake, our buildbot tables don't store revision id. I've constructed it from the set of changed files, revision number, etc. hopefully it's as unique as a real revision id * build number * platform where the tests were run * test type - basically, the set of tests to run and what protocol to use. one test may be run with different protocols * test name * test variant - or combination. certain tests may be run in many combinations Using tis file I tried to rearrange test execution order for every specific build number (using failure data from previous builds in the same table) to detect test failures as early as possible. I managed to have 90% of all test failures happening within first 10% of the tests. The goal of this project is to have something we can put back into buildbot, so that it could actually run only 10% of the tests, still having 90% probability of discovering a failure (or 20%, or 95%, whaveter). Hi Axel, I benchmarked various mutexes available to MariaDB. [Maria-developers] Error on 'make' of mariadb source

Hi all, I did some changes with in the sql_yacc.yy. During building the source , I am getting following error (attached screenshot) when I try to execute the "make" command after doing a cmake of the source. It says permission denied while trying to make jemalloc-configure. Although i am executing the make command with root user. Hello! Does MariaDB promise a 8 year release cycle for 5.5 as MySQL does? Does all of the points listed at https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/technical-board/2014-February/001812.html apply for MariaDB as well? Can we promise Ubuntu that all MariaDB minor releases fulfill the quality requirements listed above? If so, I'll then file a micro release update permission request for Ubuntu. AFAIK as I know it is the only way to get security releases to users anyway. PS.
